The Need...
- 1.1 billion people (approximately one in six people on earth) lack access to a clean water supply.
- Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a water related disease.
- Sudan is one of the countries with the highest number of people with access to only contaminated water - 12.3 million
- The lack of water in Darfur plays a part in worsening military conflict in the region as various groups compete for water resources.
The Resources...
- The average American uses 100 to 176 gallons of water at home each day.
- Pacific Institute estimates that total consumer expenditures for bottled water are approximately $100 billion per year.
- Bottled water can cost as much as $10 per gallon, which is twice the price of gasoline.
- In 2001, Americans spent over $61 billion on soft drinks.
The Project...
- $1 provides one year of clean water for a person in Sudan
- Give up one drink
- Give one dollar
- Give the gift of a well in Sudan
- Make a difference with a dollar. http://www.dollarforadrink.org/
I read about this organization and it really changed my perspective and made me realize how blest I am to have water so available. The Reblution has agreed to match donations up to a total of $1,000, so if you feel led to make a donation please leave a comment on their blog http://www.therebelution.com, so that they can make the same donation.

Jul. 7, 2008 - 4th of July
I'm sorry for not posting sooner but we've been very busy!
For the last few weekends we have been "escaping the heat" by going to our favorite campground in the mountains. It's about 15 to 20 degrees cooler there, which is still about 95! Today at home is was 106 which is a pretty cool day. My church had VBS two weeks ago, I had a blast! I lead a group of some really funny kids! Right after the last night of VBS we left for the mountains, my sisters were soaking wet for the long drive up there! We spent most of Independence Day at the campground. The girls participated in the campgrounds little parade and they decorated their bikes with as much ribbon as they could manage. Later in the afternoon we went to a parade in town, it was really hot out! We were not able to set off any fireworks because they are illegal, but we still had a lot of fun.
My mom found a really neat article on the men who signed the Declaration of Independence and what they had to sacrifice; hopefully I will be able to post it later.

-Nina

May. 25, 2008 - Holding Back
Today our pastor challenged us to live one day for Jesus, not just pray at meals and stuff but in everything we do be for Jesus and to humble our selves before him. Until today, I thought I was already living my days for Jesus, but I was wrong. What Jesus called us to do was not simply live for him, but to live in him and in everything, to do it for Jesus.
As soon as I heard the pastor give me this challenge today, a voice from deep inside of me started shouting-out “I’m too busy”, “I’m already living my life for Jesus”, How messed-up is that! Jesus, son of God died on the cross, so that one day, should I accept his offer of a new life, I could go to heaven to be with him in an everlasting life, is asking me to live my life for him, and I'm hesitating and making excuses! Today he showed me that the way I'm living my life, is only under the pretence of living for him. So from now on I will try to focus more on him, less on myself, and my selfish desires.

May. 25, 2008 - 13th Floor
I found this article on a family friend's blog, and it really made me think. Hope you find this as interesting as I did.
If I pretend it’s not there, it doesn’t exist. It simply goes away by the sheer force of my denial. I can change fate or avert disaster just by thinking it away. My intellect is challenged and defeated by manipulating something I know to be true into something I can pretend is not. At least, that must be what the hotels and high rise buildings want me to believe.
While staying in a hotel this weekend, I was reminded that when you step into an elevator, there is no button for the thirteenth floor. Based on old legend and horror stories, the thirteenth floor is cursed, and therefore no one wants to stay on that floor. But, and I know this may come as a shock to you, there is a thirteenth floor. It’s called the fourteenth floor. And unless you’re going to suspend the floors with numbers greater than thirteen above the tower leaving a space for what might have been the dreaded thirteenth floor, then technically, there is a thirteenth floor. In fact, it makes the whole top half of the high rise a sham. My room was called room #1812, (which immediately made me start humming the overture), but in reality, it was room #1712.
How did an entire nation of forward thinking people decide it was ok to just pluck thirteen out of the numeric order of building floors? And if we truly believe it makes a difference, why don’t we do that to other things that share the same number? No more 13th day of each month, no more 13th year of each century, no more 13th birthdays and no one ever has to be the 13th person in line.
It made me think about how many other things in life we treat the same way. If we ignore something we’re afraid of then it can’t hurt us. If we call something we don’t like by a different name, then it’s no longer offensive to us. If we deny the existence of something by passing over it, then we no longer have to deal with its reality.
There are things I could disregard hoping they would merely go away. Things that frighten me, things that confuse me, or things that are simply hard to deal with. I am not immune to the affects of those things by pretending they aren’t there, but I can suspend the reality of those issues by pushing a different button. The button is pushed and I step out onto the thirteenth level of the building, but I call it fourteen so I can deny whatever might happen to me by tempting the fate of number thirteen.
Just something to think about….

May. 23, 2008 - Sports
I am or have played in many different sports over the years. I might be forgeting a few but I think that the list reads like this: Tee-ball, soccer, basketball, tumbling, swimteam, cheerleading and volleyball. (My dad is really into anything competitive.)
I was recently in club volleyball, Now maybe It was that I knew no one there, that all the other girls went to school together or that because I am so tall that everyone expected me to pick it up easily. The girls where rude and some just downright mean. I was humiliated that whole season just waiting for it to be over. Now that I look back on that season of "torture", I wonder if I had been more out going would they have liked me more, If I had not been so busy wondering what they where saying behind my back and laughing about during water break if I could have played better? While all, some or none of these maybe true, I realize that also during this time of my life I had become farther from God. Before, and during that season I had slowly drifted apart from him. I was so consumed with my own thoughts, ambitions and trials that I started putting God after every thing else. I would talk to God at night only if I could not get to sleep, but other wise my life at that time had very little time for God. I know now that God also used that experiance to bring me closer to him. When you don't see the reason why things don't work our like you want them to, remember: "To everything there is a season and a purpose under heaven." -Ecclesiastes 3:1
Ha, I sat down and thought I was going to write about sports.

May. 23, 2008 - About me
Hello all,
I'v been wanting to start a blog for a long time, so I'm unbelivably exited!!!
I am the oldest girl of seven ( I have one older brother). I love being in a big family and I try constantly to be a blessing to them. God has heaped his blessings on my my family and I so amazingly I am in stupor just thinking about it. I am blessed with two wonderful parents. My Dad in a nutshell is: Hard working, funny, loving, did I already say funny?! He is also my principal and a wiz at math!!! My Mom homschools those of us who are of school age, and she constantly amazes me with how organized yet flexable she is. No matter how busy either of them are they always have time to talk. My brothers, sisters and I all get along very well and have a lot of fun together no matter the curcumstances. All in all I am very blessed!!!
We live in the country and have a variaty of animals. I have a dog: Roy, well actuly Little Lord Fauntlaroy, but Roy is much more simple. I also have a boar goat named Oscar, a cat named Randy and a cat named Dog, a Egyptian goose named Kashta and a chicken named Georga. I have showed them all in the fair through 4-H.
I also love reading, some of my favorite books are: Do Hard Things, Waiting for for Her Isaac, While Waiting for Your Prince Charming, Watership Down and David Copperfield. Well I'll have to write more later.
In Him-
Nina
