The Need...
- 1.1 billion people (approximately one in six people on earth) lack access to a clean water supply.
- Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a water related disease.
- Sudan is one of the countries with the highest number of people with access to only contaminated water - 12.3 million
- The lack of water in Darfur plays a part in worsening military conflict in the region as various groups compete for water resources.
The Resources...
- The average American uses 100 to 176 gallons of water at home each day.
- Pacific Institute estimates that total consumer expenditures for bottled water are approximately $100 billion per year.
- Bottled water can cost as much as $10 per gallon, which is twice the price of gasoline.
- In 2001, Americans spent over $61 billion on soft drinks.
