Chaos and Beautiful Moments

Posted in Family

I admit this week has been a little more challenging on the homeschooling front.  We are still doing well, but it's been more about behavioral management lately than anything!  I'm simply amazed at how negatively big changes can affect a family.  We are still, since coming home, trying to find discipline and rhythm in our days again, it seems more chaotic than anything.  But we are inching, maybe even centimetering, our way forward!  So even though we are spending a great deal of time each day just focusing on the control of undesirable bad behaviors, I feel we are still being successful, at least in God's eyes which is all that really matters.

Despite icky behavior, we are still managing to have some sweet moments.  Here are some pictures from yesterday:

1 bored toddler with an insatiable curiosity

+ 1 desperate to entertain mother

= ticket to enter into cookie cutter heaven

Here are pictures of some beautiful moments from today:

You can't see it real well, but in this picture the snow is ever so gently falling (has been most of the day).  And our creek had just started freely flowing again after being frozen over.

This morning I was reading an email that was forwarded by a good friend, and the story was one that brought me to complete awe of God and spoke directly to me, just at that very moment, through the window above me, the sun broke loose for just a few minutes (the only time it has today) and landed directly upon my face.  Don't you just love God's warm touch.  I'd been feeling so down about myself, like I was failing God again, so I really needed that warm reminder that He still loves me and always will.

Those are some great pictures. I'm sure the discipline thing will flow again soon. We have our times with that, and we haven't gone through what you've gone through. I always think that new seasons in kids lives bring new discipline issues. It seems like they were having fun today, especially with the cookie cutters. :)

I'm not sure which I enjoyed seeing more...the creativeness of a desperate mama or the sweet faces of those girls of yours! I just want to reach through and give ya all a big hug!
Love ya,

I'll say it again - your outside views are GORGEOUS - you are blessed. We have been praying for land and a home more out in the country and it just hasn't been HIS timing yet. --- Maybe, someday...

About Me

Welcome to our blog home! My name is Melissa and I am a homeschool mom of three beautiful blessings ages 11, 9, and 2; and blessed wife to my husband for 15 years. Our homeschooling style is eclectic, but we love Charlotte Mason's educational philosophies and learning the natural, everyday hands-on life way! We especially see daily opportunities to learn and grow closer to God through His amazing creation in nature!

Nature Notes

The artic chill is on! Temps haven't been out of the 30's for days. Brrrr! The woods in back have been cracking as if moaning with pain from the cold. But already, the beauty of winter is emerging as well: birds have been overly plentiful at the feeders, the sky is so clear the stars are like shining beacons in the night, the morning dew is frozen into millions of crystals on the grass that reflect the rising sun, and now that we have a clear view into the woods again we are daily seeing wild turkeys and deer passing by.

Close encounters of the "chipmunk" kind! Hannah was out on the patio watching the birds at the feeders and in a split second a little chipmunk ran around the corner obviously unaware of her presence. That was until he came face to toes with her in a standoff! Then, cheeks puffed full of bird seed, he proceeded to zip like lightning right between her legs and dashed into safety. Hannah exclaimed, "Mom, I can't breathe, that was so cool!"

Our first snowfall!! The kids and I couldn't wait to wrap up warm and get outside for nature time. The flakes were so big and wet AND yummy! We had such fun dancing and spinning around in our winter wonderland!

Scripture Notes

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. ~ Romans 1:20

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? ~ Job 12:7-9

Quotable
"Years hence, when the children are old enough to understand that science itself is in a sense sacred and demands some sacrifices, all the 'common information' they have been gathering until then, and the habits of observation they have acquired, will form a capital groundwork for a scientific education. In the mean- time, let them consider the lilies of the field and the fowls of the air." --Charlotte Mason, Vol.1, p. 63
