Recently Hannah and I were doing one of her Intermediate Language Lessons, Lesson #138 to be exact. I wanted to share this lesson because it was simply wonderful! And to also give a recommendation for Intermediate Language Lessons and Primary Language Lessons, they have been a huge blessing in our homeschool. If you like Charlotte Mason's philosophies, then I'll guess that you'll love these.
Jean Corot, the artist, once said:
After one of my excursions I invite nature to come and spend a few days with me. Pencil in hand, I hear the birds singing, the trees rustling in the wind; I see the running brooks and the streams charged with a thousand reflections of sky and earth - nay, the very sun rises and sets in my studio.
1. Explain the meaning of the paragraph.
2. If a picture were made to illustrate it, what would the picture contain?
3. Write the quotation from dictation.
Our favorite of these three was #2. Hannah and I both spent 20 minutes together just dreaming up what his studio would look like when he was drawing this picture. It turned out to be a very sweet bonding moment for her and I because we are very much alike when it comes to our "deep thinking" about nature and art, we can both go there pretty easily!! I was amazed at the mental pictures we created.
And if you'd like to take it further, here is a site with several of Corot's paintings, a self-portrait painting, and a biography: Jean Baptiste Camille Corot
We plan on choosing one of these to do a picture study on next week.
