Nature Photos ~ Spring's Beauty

I've been taking so many nature photos lately I just have to stop and make one post full of some of my favorites!

Our first male Ruby-Throated Hummingbird of the season

(click and hit full-size for a better view of this little fella)

The landing in our backyard by the creek donning is lovely spring green!

Wildflower: Blue Phlox

~ These are so amazing beautiful and have the most sweet smell.

Wildflower: Purple Dead Nettle

~ The absolute most abundant in our backyard.

Wildflower: Spring Beauty

~ Lining the bottom of the woods floor.  Named so appropriately, they are truly delicate and beautiful.

Wildflower:  Field Mustard

~ Quite frequently seen in great numbers painting whole fields yellow.

Wildflower: Garlic Mustard

~ Also quite common.  Take the leaves and rub them in your hands and smell and you'll find out why it's called garlic!

Wildflower: Common Blue Violet

~  Dotting the earth with little purple dainty beauties.

Close-up of Common Blue Violet

We have been busy pressing every new wildflower we find.  They are currently still in their books now!  When they are finished we will be adding them to our nature journals complete with labeling.

Pressing Violets and Garlic Mustard

American Robin's nest with one little "robin-egg" blue egg.

Magnificent old oak (on my parent's property)

Wildflower:  Dandelion

My favorite "flower"

Garden Flower:  Purple Phlox

~ Champion spreader!

Beautiful creek after a spring rainfall.

I enjoy your blog sooo much. Thanks for such beautiful pictures. We enjoy the hummingbirds too. The males can be so aggressive and entertain us with their dive bombing one another. Blessings, Julie

Thanks for the beautiful photos this morning from your part of the world. It is always interesting to me to see the differences in the seasons from area to area. We are in full spring mode here now with everything getting green and some areas already going brown again already. My husband says it is an early fire season with conditions like those of a typical July already. :(

Thanks again for your entry,

Oh that Spring Beuty is still my favorite. And I love that creek, what a sight! We also have those phloxes coming up -- and you are correct, they are champion spreaders!! Lots of wonderful flowers everywhere. The beauty of spring is delightful, isnt it?!
I have a draft of a few of our flowers that are popping up in the flower garden -- its set as a draft at the moment. I need to see if I have anymore pictures that need to go on there just yet.

Have a super weekend!

What can I say? Beautiful? Awesome? Those words just don't do these flowers justice. I agree the bells are precious. On another note, have you read anywhere the idea that if you see one hummingbird then you probably have 12 more coming? I think it is 12. Anyway, last year, I would have taken an oath that only 2 were coming around and we watched our feeders faithfully. I am just wondering if you have heard this statistic.

Nature Notes

Summer's last reach today, the temperatures got up to 80 degrees. But it didn't feel like it, there's just something still chilly about the air, like a foreshadowing. We're supposed to get a cold front moving through tonight causing rain and much cooler temps. Highs tomorrow only in the 60's, welcome Autumn!!

Nature Walk: Saw a Green Frog sitting down in the creek, new fall wildflowers all over - different kinds of Asters, Wooly Bear Caterpillars - mostly all strawberry red or rusty colored (I wonder why we've not seen any with black stripes on them?), lots of hickory nuts and acorns for the collecting.

Bird Notes: Our Dark-Eyed Juncos have returned!! Oh, happy day! The turkey family which through the warmer seasons stays abroad is now starting to frequent our backyard looking for food.

    Scripture Notes

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. ~ Romans 1:20

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? ~ Job 12:7-9
