LaminatingAs many of us already know, one of the national office supply retail chains is offering free laminating on Thursdays. This has started a lot of inquires on MFW groups. What's good to laminate in each year?? ugh!!!! I decided not to chime in for while. Then I finally (bravely) admitted -- ahem, I have not laminated anything. I wondered, would they still let me post? ![]() Finally another dear lady felt assured that it was ok that she didn't laminate. She was somehow feeling lame or inadequate. Nah... my dear friend, you and I are not inadequate for homeschooling. We're just "lame"inators and the others are laminators.
Botany ExperimentsOnce upon a time, I was concerned about doing Botany during the winter. But, never fear.... MFW had it covered for me. What began as a bean in a plastic bag became a semester long science project that outshined my expectations. The tiny bean grew in the bag. It sprouted and we had to transplant it into a container with potting soil. The container had to fit on the window sill since it was winter. I found an old mason jar and it worked great. Because the plant was in a mason jar, we decided to name the plant Charlotte. Charlotte grew. She had beautiful leaves. She flowered. A pod was growing and I thought WOW! we did this in the winter and everything turned out fine. The children have learned so much from this simple bean. It was the weekend of our homeschool convention. After I returned that night, I entered in my kitchen. There was the mason jar on the counter. A trail of potting soil with the shape of cat paws in the soil. I looked at my husband. He told me -- we tried all weekend to keep the cat away. Our cat ate Charlotte Mason!!!! down to the stem. It does make me wonder though.... do other people have this kind of science "cat"astrophes? You can't make this stuff upThere are some things you just can't make up. A few days ago, it was a scene out a silly sitcom. But it really happened. We received the summer newsletter from God's Word for the Nations. I waited until supper time to show it to the children so that we could share together what God is doing. I talked about stories in the newsletter and noticed my 8 y.o wasn't paying attention. I reminded her "You remember David Hazell, right?"
As the power came back up in the next few seconds, we hear from a few feet away "Hello. My name is David Hazell." eeek! I jumped out of my skin and started laughing hysterically. You see, earlier in the day I was listening to a CD recording of an MFW workshop given at a homeschool convention. The CD restarted after the brown out.
