Welcome to My Father's World | |
Memory Lane: Day 3 of VacationLife has come at me full force since we've been home from vacation. I wanted to have all my vacation posts done last week. Oh well... today is another day! On the third day of vacation, we re-visited our favorite spot in the Ozark Mountains, The Wilder Home in Mansfield, Missouri. At a casual glance and to the uninformed, this little white farm house appears to be nothing special. But to the avid fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder, it is like Mecca! (Not that I worship her. ) She spent all of her adult life here at this farm, 60 some years! And she wrote all the books here too.![]() Like I said, this is the second year that we've visited this museum. Last year, my grandparents traveled with us and did not want to go on to see the second house on the property, so it was nice to get to see it this time. The two homes are connected by a half mile path that leads up a 60 foot hill, past a pasture and through some woods. It was a lovely afternoon walk after a 3 hour drive from Arkansas. As I walked the path Laura used to walk, I kept thinking of how hard they had to work to subdue the land. Incredible! And Almanzo was lame! There were some pretty views from the top of the hill. ![]() ![]() The Rock House was built by their daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, as a surprise Christmas present for the Wilders when they were older. She wanted them to have a more modern house. They lived there for 7 or 8 years and then moved back to the farm house they loved so much. Sorry, they only let you take photos from the outside. After visiting the gift shop, we traveled through town to visit their graves. ![]() Thanks for taking the time to read about our vacation. Hopefully there will be more tomorrow. Now it it time to get our lessons started. Adam Through NoahWe have done most of "week 2" so far - not bad considereing Monday was a holiday and we were still playing catch up from last week's tummy flu. I just had an amazing conversation with my 8-year-old about the "sons of God" and "daughters of men" (Gen. 6:1-4) this morning. We never did get to our Noah's ark notebook page, but we'll catch it tomorrow or Monday. I've shared over and over just how thankful I am for My Father's World. Looks like there's a possibility we might get to meet the founders/author next month. Please pray with me that God will work out all the possibilities if this is something He has planned for us. Two big hurdles (one being the cost of airline tickets from Nevada to Missouri) currently stand in our way. I'm hopeful though... I'll be on blog radio next week!

Link Press Release: Christian Organization Unites the Millions Who Live with Invisible Illness Contact: Lisa Copen, Rest Ministries, 858-486-4685, rest@restministries.org MEDIA ADVISORY, Sept. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Nearly 1 in 2 people in the USA live with a chronic illness and about 96% of the illnesses are invisible.* Rest Ministries, Inc., the largest Christian organization that serves the chronically ill, an affiliate of Joni Eareckson Tada's International Disability Ministry, is encouraging those with illness, as well and family, caregivers, and churches through their annual outreach event, National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week, September 8-14, 2008. This year the week features 20 workshops with well-known guest speakers who will be presenting and answering questions via Blog Talk Radio, September 8-12. Speakers include:
Copen, who has lived with rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia since the age of twenty-four explains why Invisible Illness week matters. "Those with illness do have to accept that other people aren't going to 'get it.' Only God understands. But it's nice to encourage peers and find strength in validating the mixed emotions. You don't have to explain why walking twenty feet may be impossible some days." Rest Ministries extends their outreach about illness awareness to churches, providing materials to start up HopeKeepers groups, books, cards, tracts, etc. About 96% of those with illness may appear perfectly healthy on Sunday mornings, but may struggle to get out of bed the remainder of the week. Ken Chambers, Director of Church Relations at Joni and Friends International Disability Center, says, "It is vital that Christians understand the emotional and spiritual trials of those with invisible disabilities, as well as those with visible disabilities. Rest Ministries is dedicated to educating churches to not only serve the chronically ill, but to involve them in the church body. I encourage church leaders to take advantage of the wealth of resources at Rest Ministries and to participate in the National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week." Get involved by joining the hundreds of people who will blog about invisible illness on September 8th, attend a seminar, or tell someone who has an illness about the event. Typically, people with illness are unable to attend a traditional conference, so a "virtual conference" is widely anticipated. All seminars will also be recorded and archived. “HOPE CAN GROW FROM THE SOIL OF ILLNESS!” Our Schedule! This week please post what your planned homeschool routine is. 8:00 We have breakfast and clean up. Usually a very quick breakfast- toast, peanut butter toast, pop tart, granola, fruit, bagel (something along that lines) We usually save the big breakfast for weekends, once in a while we make an exception. 830 I check email and we have grooming. (dress, brush hair and teeth, shower(sometimes morning, sometimes night before) 9:00- school usually starts promptly. Now I'm at the stage where I don't have babies or toddlers anymore, this was tougher for me when I did. My 4th grader does Math, handwriting, Wordly Wise(somedays) and reading (basically his independent work) while I work with my first grader and preschooler. We do handwriting, reading lessons, bible, and math (very beginning math, I don't do this with my preschooler yet) I usually let her join in when she wants and just supply things for her to do when she goes off on her own. I like to work with her in the evening with sonlight pre-k readers and other fun things a couple of days a week. She does like to join us a lot though and when she does, she practices letters, phonic sounds, and plays with puzzles, etc. She is 4. 10:00 I usually start to work with my oldest. My first grader finishes up drawing projects, writing letters ,and and then he goes off for independent play. We do Bible, geography/history, science readings, Language Arts, and music. 11:30-12 We eat lunch and have clean up 12- My oldest and I finish up 1230- We do our chores (all of us) 1:00 We all have some free time 2:00 We have a snack and I work on my Mom planner list (If I haven't finished earlier and I usually have not) 3:00 We do book basket. This is where the timer is set for 15 minutes and we look through books that I have put in a basket from suggestions from My Fathers World. Each week we put in books that are about subjects we are studying. Example. My first grader is learning about things underground this week so we have books on worms, ants, etc. Right up a Boys Alley, huh? My oldest is learning about maps and the world so we have atlases, maps, books like Children of the World, and different culture books. You would be amazed how much they pick up and learn this way. We LOVE Book Basket time here! Then we have quiet time until 5 4pm While quiet time is going on there is no radio, tv, electronic anything. I usually use this time to work on bills, emails, check blogs, etc. 430-Dinner prep 5:00- everyone is up and usually Dad is home. We make and eat and clean up dinner On Tuesdays I go grocery shopping with my mom and my husband takes kids to Twkwon. practice On Wednesday we do our science, and other projects we want to make together because we are all home! On Thursday we have dinner with my Father in law and husband's brothers family. We also have piano lessons in the morning so school is in the afternoon and we cut out two subjects. We do coop on Friday-no school at home. In the evening Friday we either have family night or a friend night, we rotate these. So one Friday is Family night where we do something special, next I go do something with a girlfriend and the next my husband does somethng with a friend. We have done this since we have gotten married. My friends are so funny, they are always asking Who's friend night is it? Saturday-Family Day! Sometimes working together on our home, yard, etc and sometimes going out to something fun! Sunday-church and rest! We do our read alouds with our living books before bedtime. The kids always get excited about this! Thats in in a nutshell, of course sometimes our days go smoothly and sometimes not! We have days where kids wake up with fevers or we are having character issues or any other interuuption and we have to put all on hold I really like this priority list and its what I try to follow. God first Character Second Academics Third Its more important that I have God loving obedient children then they know their Math facts! Can't wait to see all of your schedules! Memory Lane: Day TwoWhile the kids are watching a Moody Science Video, I thought I'd post a few pictures from our second day of vacation. I won't bore you to death with all of them. (hee, hee) We went to an airport museum in Arkansas. Personally, I was a bit hot from the Arkansas sunshine and a bit surprised that they charged a family of 5 $20 to see some old planes, but I think the kids had fun.![]() ![]() Jeff met a new friend. ![]() Ryan learned to fly. ![]() Grace and I shared a shady spot. ![]() Oh, but before the air museum, we stopped by a friend's bakery in Fayetteville. So the day was not a total loss. A day is never wasted spent with family, so old planes or not, it was a lovely day. Love those mountains!
Memory Lane: Vacation Day 1I thought I'd do a day by day in pictures of our vacation, starting with the day we left. I can't believe we were on the road at daybreak. Our goal was to leave a little earlier, but in reality we left as soon as we were able.![]() And as always, the van was fully loaded down! Most of this is food for the road! ![]() Since we are a low tech family, reading was the best way to pass the time. ![]() Or sleeping.. ![]() The big deal for us is to reach the St. Louis Arch. ![]() Someday we'd love to stop and explore this city. But this year we were headed to Arkansas. And more of our trip another time. Thanks for stopping by. Tuesday Review!

Well I know most of you have probably already seen this but if there is anyone out there that hasn't you MUST! My family finally was able to watch Faching the Giants this weekend, WOW what a movie. All three of my kids-9,6 and 4 just watched-they were all so into the movie. I don't know what it was that kept their attention. I expected my oldest to like it but I was suprised to see my others so interested. This is such a great faith booster movie. I could relate to so many things, the couple having many trials and just getting to a point in your adult life that you feel hopeless. The Kid David who loves the Lord but walks aroud defeated most of the time because of confidence and insecurity. So many times when they do a Christian movie it has a cheesy feel, this one did NOT! It was great quality, there was only one scene I thought was a little borderline corny but any movie can have one scene like that. It is where one of the coach's is trying to teach David, the soccer start has to kick in the middle not to the side and he starts quoting scripture about the narrow gate, I don't know I thought that was a little stretching it. I think what I loved what just imagining what life would be life if everyone was living Godly principles in every thing they did like this football team started to do. Imagine how wonderful life would be, everybody was doing their careers, running their churches and schools, sports teams, families, politicians, by the coachs guidelines. What an AMERICA we would have! If you have not seen this movie run out and get it THIS WEEKEND, it is too good to pass up. It would be a great story for your children as well-to see what turning everything over to the Lord can do for their life!
Clinging to this verse...While I was away, I read a fantastic book by Elizabeth George, my favorite contemporary Christian author. Do you know Elizabeth? A few years back, I was blessed to hear her speak at my church. So of course I bought a few of her books from the book table. It has taken me awhile, but I am making my way through each of them, gleaning much wisdom from above. The book I read last week is entitled, God's Wisdom for a Woman's Life. My, how I do need wiisdom! After reading this book, I have been convicted about how I spend my time. This verse from Proverbs keeps coming to my mind. "She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness." (Proverbs 31:27) I've prayed over this verse and it is my personal goal to eat less bread of idleness in the coming weeks! (Maybe I'll even loose weight. LOL) I am not going to say how this will look. I am praying about how to use the precious 24 hours in my day. I do know that I have been convicted about not making the most of the afternoons. It's always been a hard time of the day for me to schedule. I would like to be more productive and keep to a routine. I have a plan in mind and will be praying over it this week. So there you have it. This is what is going on in my little mind. Home Sweet HomeOh, I am home, sweet, home! I missed my kitty and my bed and most of all the wonderful Indiana weather. No offense intended, but it is HOT down south! One day in Oklahoma it is was 104! No thank you! I love Indiana. I think that is what is best about going away...coming home!We did have a wonderful time. Spending days on end together as a family was such a treat. The kids were so well behaved. We ended up driving 2000 miles with all the little side trips we took. But the kids did great. I'll have some pictures later in the week. Right now we have the rest of the weekend together and I am not going to be on the computer much until Tuesday. Just wanted to say hello!
Shabbot Shalom!I am happy to report that all 3 kids are much improved and we never had to take that run to the doctor's office! :) To conclude our first week of Creation to the Greeks, we are celebrating Shabbot (Sabath) today. We started at sunset last night with a traditional Shabbot dinner. R's (dd5) favorite part was drinking the "wine" (grape juice) out of fancy glasses. The most touching part for me was watching my husband go around the table, placing his hands upon the head of each child, and saying a pray of blessing over each of them. { Last Page } { Page 1 of 5 } { Next Page } |
