First Day Back

Yesterday was supposed to have been the beginning of our road trip but we delayed our departure from Haines for a few days.  I am glad it worked out this way because it has given me a little more time to organize, etc.  Also, we arrived back at our house in Haines to discover we had a cherry tree totally covered with ripe cherries, not to mention raspberry bushes loaded as well.  I would have never had time to harvest them if we had stuck to our original departure date.  Oh, there are gooseberries in the front yard, too.

Anyway, in between picking and getting caught up with friends and church here and unpacking and preparing to pack and the baby's second birthday...Wasn't there a rule somewhere about too many ands in a sentence?  I think there should be a rule about too many ands in life!!...we started school yesterday.  It was great to get back into the mode, however, I was already frustrated.  That is NOT supposed to happen on the FIRST day of school.  I think it was all those ands in my life.  Today went much better.

I was so very encouraged to find out that my boy really did learn some things last year.  We reviewed math facts and reading skills which was very encouraging.  Even today he sat down and read a "second grade level" book to me.  I am so relieved over that.

Today the girls had to do their first writing assignment and they both finished without any problems.  Yessss!!!

Now, if I could just eliminate some more of those "ands"....I can't think how but I will let you know if I find a way!

Cherries, rasberries and gooseberries? How lucky are you? A canners dream. I sadly live in a climate with a very short growing season, not the land of the midnight sun like yourself. I hope you have enjoyed the first week of school and those delicious berries!
Blessings,
Heidi

I know what you mean about those "ands." LOL.
That is so exciting about all your cherries and raspberries and gooseberries! I've never seen a gooseberry.
So, what do you do with the cherries? Holly

They all went into the freezer for now but when I get them out again they will be jams and sauces as well as part of breads, etc. The cherries are "cooking" cherries which means they are "sour." Gooseberries are very tart green balls --they almost look like marbles.
