Actions and Consequences

Posted in Parenting

As a parent, I must admit that I have not been consistent in my discipline.

Many times, my children argue and bicker, my reaction is. "Stop arguing." And of course,

nothing really changes.

We have the 21 rules up on the fridge, we also have the 3 b's. Bee Honest, Bee Respectful, and Bee Obedient. (Which all things simply fall under these three, but I still like having the 21 rules, to quote how they are breaking the 3 B's.)

But I haven't actually put consequences up. In the past we have pretty much just ran on a

3 strikes and your out type thing. 3 minus's and dad deals with you when he gets home.

A friend on the HSS forum mentioned making an If and Then chart up for her children. I liked the idea, and decided it was time for us to adopt one too. I like the fact that the consequences are listed, the Bible verse is listed, to show how they are also violating God's word. So for every offense there is a consequence and restitution of some sort.

The Homeschoolers' 23 Psalm

Posted in Parenting

I subscirbe to daily devotions from Alpha Omega.

This was the one they sent today. I just had to pass it on.

The Lord is my Shepherd. I shall not want.
He maketh me to live on less sleep:
He leadeth me through the noise of many voices.

He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me to teach
The right lessons each day, for His name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of undone
Laundry and kitchen messes, I will fear no evil:
For thou art with me, my teacher's guides and
Answer keys, they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence
Of threatening school officials and critical family members:
Thou anointest my head with heavenly wisdom, my cup runneth over.

Surely educated and godly children shall follow after me
All the days of my life: and I will dwell again one day
In a clean house with the Lord forevermore.

What to do with fighting siblings.

Posted in Parenting

Anyone else have siblings that like to argue and fight on occasion? Well today I decided on a new form of discipline. (Well it is not new, I did it with ds last year, but have not been consistent with it lately.)

So anyway today DD kicked ds because she was mad at him, then he kicked her. So I made them both write apologies to each other. Well dd is not able to spell, but I wrote hers and made her trace it and draw something on it for him.

Then I made them read the letters to each other and hug.

This was first occurence. I told them if they did it again they would write aplogies and the rules they violated. In our home we have the 21 Rules of this House posted on the fridge. If another occurrence happened they would also write a scripture in addition to it.

Rule # 6 is: We do not hurt one another with unkind words or deeds.

Rule #7 is: When someone needs correction, we correct them in love.

Rule #21 is: When we disobey or forget any of the rules of this house, we accept discipline and instruction.
