Under the Maple Tree

• Nov. 30, 2005 - Giving

A few years back I heard something that has stuck with me, and I do this often around Christmas time. Instead of asking kids "What do you WANT for Christmas?" I ask them, "What are you GIVING for Christmas?" The look I get from some children is one of confusion at first, and then once it sinks in, they usually try to think about it and tell me what they would like to give someone. It is funny to see the responses at first, but I believe it helps them focus more on others and the spirit of Christmas than on themselves.

Gotta go, I am trying to fix my computer, it seems to be acting up! More to come...

Kyle is my big gift-giver. He gets SO much joy out of planning and giving gifts. He has been planning what he is going to get his brothers for quite awhile. This is a great idea....thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the reminder to teach our children the gift of giving. I haven't done well at all in this area, but maybe it's not too late. Love, Jeani

In 2003, our family made gifts for one another. It was a really special year. I enjoyed watching everyone working on their gift giving. I scrapbooked pages of our year for everyone. DH made some great wood crafts and each of my children used their talents to create something for each member in our family. Pictures, sewing and paper projects. It was priceless! Since than I find myself asking what will you be giving/making so and so.....
Be Blessed,
TNMOM

We are trying to make a lot of handmade gifts. It's so nice to sit and work on projects with the kids that we will give for Christmas.

About Me

My front porch is my new favorite place to be...to pray, to fellowship with friends, to listen, to teach, and to learn. I am looking forward to all that the Lord sends my way, as I now have a quiet place to go, to listen to God in the stillness of my front porch under the maple tree.
