Home Again

 Feb. 10, 2008 - Blogger Friend School # 13

  1. How old is your Bible? On Friday (my birthday) it will be four years.
  2. Why did you chose this Bible?  It was a gift from my sister.
  3. Do you highlight/mark passages in your Bible? Yes
  4. If so, what is your system for marking passages?  I mark verses that mean something to me.  Or stand out to me or something that I want to remember.
  5. Do you have notebooks to record things? Yes
  6. If so, how many and what do you record? I have a notebook that I take notes in during church and one that I use to write down my prayers in while doing my morning quiet time.
  7. Where is your favorite spot to read your Bible? The Sermon on the Mount - Matthew 5-7
  8. Are there any special thoughts about your Bible you want to share?  Just the fact that my Bible is a KJV/Amplified side by side Bible.  I am a big KJV fan.  I grew up on it.  It sure made the Shakespeare class in high school easier to understand.

The assignment this week is to state some of our goals for the following year.

For myself: grow in my walk with the Lord, mainly by being more consistent in my daily quiet time, be more consistent, procrastinate less

For my business:  take and pass NARM certification exam, get my license and CPM, get clients

For K: have a more committed walk with God, earn Weblos badge and be close to getting Arrow of Light for Cub Scouts, reading more and better, more one on one time for us with schoolwork

For E: be more consistent in daily devotion time, earn both Star and Life ranks in Boy Scouts (ok maybe that is pushing it a little, but that is what I am hoping for.), be a little more physically active.  have good one on one time other than schoolwork

I have other goals, hopes, dreams for the next year, but these are the most reasonable.  They are also the ones that I have the most control of.  I thought about putting something like find a husband for one of my goals, but realized that isn't realistic.  Especially since God is totally in control of that one.

The assignment is to pray for our friends and to visit them and let them know.  So I will be visiting you over the next week to pray for you.

Also we are to list our prayer requests:
finances - I have a lot of midwifery expenses coming up.  It is $700 just for the exam, plus licensing fee and to finish getting all my equipment.
my boys - that I can be a good mom and have guidance on how to handle the issues that arise.
a husband - I really want one of these.  I feel that the strong desire I have is from God and that he will grant that desire.  I need patience while waiting on His timing.
Also as the completion of my training nears and my exam approaches, I am getting nervous.  Pray for that and that the end I can get everything completed by the deadline.  Otherwise I have to wait another 6 months for the next exam.

Thanks in advance for your prayers.

 Nov. 6, 2007 - Blogger Friend School Assignment #8

Okay, I know I missed the last assignment.  I somehow missed it until after my pumpkin was already starting to mold.  Good thing that we are not being graded for completion, right?

Part A - How my family does laundry.  Well, this is where the dirty laundry is supposed to go:

However I can tell you that there is at least that much on the floor of the boys' bedroom.  Tomorrow is laundry day for us.  Most of the time, one boy will sort for me.  Usually K.  He is faster and enjoys it more.  I do the washing, however sometimes I will have them rotate laundry if it is needed when I am busy with something else.  I fold the laundry and the boys put it away.

My laundry area is a closet in the kitchen.  The previous owners ruined the doors, so I have the prettiest shower curtain that matched my kitchen hanging up.

Part B - God's laundry.  The thing that I thought of for this is anger and frustration.  I get angry and frustrated with finances, circumstances, and my children.  God is working with me on how to deal with those emotions in a manner more pleasing to Him.

Part C - The Bible verse that seemed to go with this theme is Psalm 51:10 - Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

 Oct. 5, 2007 - Blogger Friend School Assignment #5

I am going to see if I can get this posted.
This week is
Our first assignment is to put our names in signs.
Here are some of mine:

This is K's actual jersey colors and number.  Hopefully I will get to post photos after tomorrow's game.

And let's see.  The Bible verse of the day is:  "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."  Galatians 6:9
It seemed fitting after my day. :)

Sep. 26, 2007 - Panning For Gold (or BFS Assignment #4)

First I just want to say AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I just spent mega time on this and my computer froze and I lost it all.

So, because I lost the first entry I am not going to be as long-winded or fancy this time.  The idea is to post favorite Internet sites, because our resources can be like gold to us.

Favorite place to blog:  Homeschool Blogger, of course.  I have other "blogs", but they are so I can visit other people's blogs.

A website that I visit every day:  I would say here, but lately I have slacked off.  I've been reading more.

Favorite place I look for a book to buy:  Well, first I figure out if I have to buy it.  I'd rather see if I can borrow it from the library first.

Favorite Homeschool Support Area:  Again Homeschool Blogger

Site that I buy new curriculum from:  I used these two last Rock Solid Inc.
and Math-U-See

Site that I buy used curriculum from:  ebay

Site that I get wholesome recipes from: I don't usually get recipes off the Internet, however I did use allrecipes.com
to get an ice cream cake recipe for K's birthday.  See photo here.

A homeschool family that I purchase from to support them:  We get midwifery supplies from this homeschooling family.

Site that offers Homeschooling Freebies:  Old Fashioned Education
has a whole free curriculum.

Site that offers any kind of Freebies:  This
is a free sample site that offers freebies for teachers as well.

A blog to read that is always full of humor:  my friend TC

A blog  to read that is always full of useful information:  Lynn has two wonderful sites here and here.

A blog that inspires me to be a better mom:  Living By Daily Grace
has such heart-wrenching stories of trying to be a better mom that it is an inspiration to me.

A site that I allow my children to go on:  Our local library offers the Rosetta Stone Spanish off of their site.
This year I haven't used to many websites.  Last year I used a bunch.

Ambleside Online
I am using their artist and composer studies this year.

I got an ebook to go with it from Wowio

Last year I got worksheets off of the following sites:

ABC teach

School Express.com

Enchanted Learning

Teachnology

The boys and I are reading Proverbs every day.  This was part of this mornings reading.

 Sep. 13, 2007 - Blogger Friend School Assignment #2

Hopefully I can get this posted before my computer dies again.
The Blogger Friend School can be found at Training Heart's blog.
Last week we were to post about our dream spot to blog.  For mine, go here.
This week we are supposed to make our current blogging spot more special.
This is my current spot:

Yes, I sit in that ridiculously hard chair in a corner of my bedroom.  I decided not to make the spot anymore inviting, because I spend way to much time on the computer as it is.  (If it is working.)  I do try to find more ways to be comfortable in that chair though.  Like propping my feet up in the window sill.

As for Bible verses, I have posted so many lately.  I don't know whether to post a new one or use one from a previous post.  Um, let's see.
I think I will use this one:  My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory.
In the past three years God has really provided for me.  I am also standing on that promise as I believe He will continue to provide so that I can finish becoming a midwife and get my supplies.

 Sep. 6, 2007 - Blogger Friend School Assignment #1

I saw this last year and thought it would be fun.  So, I am going to attempt to stick with it this year.

A. Give a brief introduction paragraph stating how you got started blogging and your personal goals for journaling.

In last summer's issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, they wrote in article about blogging and this site.  I decided to check it out.  I was hooked almost immediately.  I have always loved writing, but am not very disciplined at keeping a journal.  I also use it to let friends here, in Hawaii, Pennsylvania, and Nevada keep tabs on me and my boys.
I really have no real goal about my journaling.  It is just documentation of what I am thinking, feeling, or how our schooling is going.

B. Share a dream place to blog in picture if you can.

A cute little cottage out here:

Or if I had a laptop, near here or really almost any watery location would do:
C. Answer some more questions about you:

1. What time do you usually blog?
After the kids go to bed usually, but not always.

2. What is your favorite drink?
Honestly I don't really have one.  I mostly drink water.  If I go out to eat, ice tea with lemon.  Every now and then a good mocha frappachino.

3. What is your favorite book?
With as much as I read, how can I choose just one?  I have made friends with many books.

4. What is your favorite dessert?
Usually anything with chocolate.  Lately it's been ice cream.

5. Share a scripture that has been an inspiration in your growth with Christ.
I can't remember where it is found but:  My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in Glory.  It has really helped me to focus on Him as my Provider.
