When is Mother's Day?

According to the calendar on my refrigerator today is Mother's Day, the one day of the year that Mother's are supposed to be honored and thanked. The television says I'm supposed to be showered with diamond necklaces and dinner at a restaurant, special cards and flowers.  DH bought me a new lens for camera (that's unusual) and both the kids (15 & 19) gave me a hug and a kiss. And that's (the kisses and hugs) all I expect or want.  Don't get me wrong, I've had (and loved) my fair share of homemade presents and cards, and the store bought ones as well. But I am blessed; around here, Mother's Day comes several times a year.   Our scriptures command us to "Honor thy Mother & Father" everyday, not just on the 2nd Sunday of May.  While my DH brought me roses Friday night, he also buys them on a regular basis because he loves me. I might not have gotten breakfast in bed this morning, but I did about two months ago just because they wanted to be nice. Mother's Day was last week when my son made the coffee before I got out of bed.  And when they clean the house without being asked, or when I get a big thank you and a hug after a competition. Mother's Day is when I'm the first one to get a phone call when something great happens or when I get an American Girls postcard from my daughter on some unimportant Tuesday afternoon that says "You're Cool".   And I'd rather have all these "Mother's Day" gifts than diamond bracelets on the 2nd Sunday in May.

So while I hope you all have a Happy Mother's Day today, I hope you have a Happy Mother's Day every other day of the year.

Sorry, I am too lazy to log in. I loved your post. I had a great mother's day, lots of neat little handmade things and such. I was spoiled rotten all day. I didn't deserve one iota of it.

Hope to talk to you soon!

So true about Mother's Day! Excellent insight. We tend to get caught up in the world's understanding of traditions and dates, when God calls us to love daily. Sometimes that means dying daily to ourselves and to our own worldly thinking. Sounds like you have wonderful children who rise up and call you blessed and a husband who praises you in the gates and a God who is proud to call you daughter. What more could anyone desire?

Happy Birthday friend!

...and I am so glad the birdie made his/her way to me so I could find you and wish you a very blessed birthday. My birthday was Thursday. Don't you just love having a birthday and Mother's Day at the same time? It seems like we get to celebrate longer this way! Amen to your Mother's Day post, too! Every day is Mother's Day, isn't it? Man, I had no idea flying around HSB was so tiring! I don't think I was cut out for this "flying around" stuff. Hmm.....maybe I am really surfing and not flying after all. Suddenly, I don't feel so tired, just a little wet!

LOL!

Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess the unschooler, free thinker in me just somehow lost track of how the days fly by so quickly! But I figured since you can celebrate Mother's Day any day of the year, you'd be ok with celebrating your birthday on a few extra days too!

Happy Birthday Friend. You & your blog are a real blessing!
