No Time for School, Too Busy Learning

I always wanted a bumper sticker that said something to that effect.  It boggles my mind that some people have their kids in school all day and still take/have/use time to do all the things that I count as school: bowling, flute lessons, 4H, volunteer work.  I honestly don't know how they do it without loosing their mind or their family.  Today (actually that past 14 todays) have been so busy, if it weren't for Sabbath, I don't know when I would sit still!

Our 4H club just finished up their community service project, which was a busy 2 weeks for my DD. This year the kids decided to combine their projects and make 20 gift bags stuffed with coloring books, crayons, stuffed animals, puzzles, and playing cards. My daughter donated some scap material and had the club help her cut out the material, then she and a friend sewed them together. Our computer project guy designed and printed Get Well cards; our friend donated some really cute stuffed bees w/nurses caps that said "Bee Well". They stuffed everything in the bags and delivered them to the hospital.  The kids were allowed to visit with some of the patients. There were only about 6 kids in at the time, so they left the rest for future patients and siblings. The patients and the hospital staff were very appreciative and our 4Hers felt like they had truly done something unique and worthwhile.  I was really proud of my DD and the entire club.

Now that Community Service is finished, she's scrambling to finish her Historian Record book/Scrapbook, which is due on Friday. She sure is getting alot of Grammar and  Journaling credit time! Next week she has to get last meeting minutes typed up and an artlicle sent in for the newsletter; and then she and I and another Mother/Daughter team are doing the state homeschool conference next weekend. Of course as soon as this is done, she has to start working on her Sewing (Fantasy Costume) and Photography projects, which are due on 22 Jul. And somewhere in there she still has Volunteer work, Bowling and Flute. I can't imagine doing that AND 8 hours of school. And did I mention that I'm the club leader so now I have to deal with the other kids and officers that need to have everything registered by Friday as well?!

Right now we, I mean SHE, has to get back to this scrapbook which isn't even close to being done.  I'm helping her with some of the computer work (printing stickers, showing her how to do layouts, etc.), editing grammar, etc; but DD has to do the main/most of the work I'm sure she'll be burning the midnight oil for the next few days I'm sure.

And then there's our trip back east to DC and Pennsylvania coming up next month.... maybe next time.  Until then, take some time off from school and enjoy your summer learning.

P.S. I just realized that I had a different post with the same title last November. Here were my rambling thoughts and schedule that time! Enjoy

I know exactly what you mean! Our 4-H year comes to a close with fair in August so we're a bit behind you. My daughter is Treasurer (third year in a row) and my son is the Council Representative, then my SS is President. Not to mention the 4 kids' animal projects and market projects to sell at the Jr. Livestock auction the last day of the fair. *sigh* Yes, there's a lot of math, writing, record keeping, and other misc. learning that goes along. We love it.

Then there's Cub Scouts for our son. And our two new foster kids (who aren't really foster kids at all). And the gardening. I don't know when people have time to do these things and other "school" work. All the bases get covered, just not in a typical "sit down school" style. :~)

Yes, if it weren't for Shabbat I'd be crazy too. HaShem is so good to give us a day of rest, He knows we would run ourselves ragged if He didn't tell us to rest. :~) What a good Daddy He is. :-D

I'll take one of those bumper stickers. lol Children learn so much more from living life than from a pile of textbooks. And they retain so much more--nothing better than an impromptu lesson when one of the children asks why?
Blessings,
Christine
