Those of you who do things by the book, you probably have a grade book and planner to constantly reassure you (and your student) that high school is going just as it should and that they are accomplishing real high school level stuff. But there are those of us in the homeschool world that are just a bit more relaxed and every once in a while, we (me, my husband, and the children) need to know that what we're doing compares to "real high school". Today I found that shot in the arm for me and my 15yo dd.
I went on-line and visited the websites of two of our local high schools and downloaded their coarse catalog. We went through it and looked at all the courses and descriptions and low and behold, there were all the things we do: Independent Living, Relationships, Astronomy, Geology, Cereamics, Student Government, Journalism, Yearbook, Technical Writing ... it's all there. I think I'll go visit some other high schools sites for some more ideas. Maybe those of you who are free spirited and unsure about your high school should do the same thing. |
