PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER REQUESTS - SEPTEMBER 28, 2006

Posted in Chapel

From the PPT newsletter:

As President Bush has called for the declassification of the National Intelligence Estimate, it calls to concern many key issues for prayer:

  • Pray that no damage will be done to American security due to the release of this document
  • Pray that the recommendations in the document that are not currently implemented by our government will be judiciously pursued
  • Pray for a perception of failure by jihad on the part of all in the Muslim world
  • Pray for moderate, mainstream Muslim voices to emerge—providing a powerful weapon in the war on terror
  • Pray for the capture of Osama Bin Ladin, Ayman al-Zawahiri and Abu Mus’ab al-Zarqawi
  • Pray that the Internet will not be used by extremist groups for recruitment, training and propaganda
  • Pray that no further intelligence information will get pulled into the political arena

As disagreement over the war in Iraq mounts, pray for President Bush, Commander-in-Chief, to have godly guidance and wisdom as he leads our troops.

Pray for President Bush as on 9/29 he meets with President Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan to discuss democracy promotion, the war on terror, energy diversification and the advance of freedom. Pray also as on 10/2 he meets with Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan to discuss cooperation in the War on Terror, advancing freedom in the broader Middle East.

As another school hostage crisis has underscored the need for prayer for America’s schools, pray for the students and families involved in the Platte Canyon High School hostage situation in Bailey, CO, that they will be comforted by God. Pray also for the safety and security of all our nation’s schools, that any plots developed to do harm will be defused before they are enacted.

As Muslims observe Ramadan, 9/24-10/24, pray for God’s protection for our airports, train stations, city centers, military bases and borders. Pray that any extremist plots will be foiled before they are formed.

Pray for the ongoing concern for a buildup of nuclear weapons by N. Korea -- Iran and that sanctions brought by Japan and Australia against North Korea will be effective in restraining nuclear ambitions.

As members of Congress consider options for immigration reform, pray for God’s wisdom as they vote this week on a bill that would create a 700 mile fence on the border between the U.S. and Mexico. Pray for the best solutions to this complex issue.

Pray for our troops as they labor faithfully in Afghanistan, Iraq and around the world. Pray for their efforts to succeed and for the governments of those nations to step up and defend their lands against evil and terror. Pray for protection for every member of our military wherever they serve.

PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER REQUESTS - JULY 27, 2006

Posted in Chapel

As the air strikes and bombings continue between Israel and Lebanon, pray for the Spirit of God to intervene in this crisis, giving wisdom and conviction to every key leader involved. Pray for President Bush, Secretary of State Rice and other advisors as they have called for a sustainable cease fire that would safeguard life and quell ongoing violence. Pray for the root causes of this conflict to be resolved that Hezbollah will end their terrorist activity.

As President Bush has sent troops to secure Baghdad following his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister al-Maliki, pray for success in this effort, and pray for the end of the insurgent attacks in that city.

As former President Gerald Ford has been hospitalized in Vail, CO, pray for his strength and health, and for the presence of God to comfort him.

Pray for the President on 7/27 as he meets at the White House with Romanian President Traian Basescu. On 7/28 he will welcome British Prime Minister Tony Blair to consult on concerns for a lasting peace in the Middle East including democracy in Afghanistan and Iraq, Iran’s nuclear buildup and genocide in Darfur. Pray for President and Mrs. Bush as they prepare for an extended time at the Crawford, TX ranch beginning 8/3, asking God to provide them with His peace and rest while there.

Pray for the members of the House of Representatives as they consider a vote on raising the minimum wage in our country, asking God to guide each one with His wisdom to a just decision.

As wildfires continue to rage in San Diego County, pray for firefighters to be strengthened and protected, for success in stopping these fires and for a break in the stifling heat.

As President Bush has formally observed the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, give thanks and praise for this history making legislation that has improved the quality of life for so many, and pray for all disabled and physically challenged in our nation to be strengthened by God.

Give thanks for the successful evacuation implemented by U.S. military forces in Lebanon earlier this week, and pray for the protection of every member of the military wherever they serve. Pray also for the continued strength of troops on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Prayer - Our most important job

Posted in Chapel

I believe that prayer is one of, if not THE, most important things we can do for one another in both the military and in homeschooling...well in every area of life really. I have been a prayer warrior for many years now and truly consider it a blessing to pray for others. I am faithful to pray immediately for each person that asks me to. Sometimes I do so right in front of them and it catches them by surprise I think! *S*

There are many times when the Lord will continue to lay that person or situation on my heart and I continue to pray for them until He releases me.

This month we are getting ready here on the Home Front to prepare our next issue of the newsletter for you all. Our focus is on gearing up for another school year. The first thing we did as a team was commit to praying about our articles and for each other. As we move forward it seems the Lord is telling me to really focus on submitting our needs to Him in prayer before we step out in our next homeschooling year. I also  felt strongly that I was to share with you all that we have a way by which YOU can submit your prayer needs to us. These prayer requests are not limited to our active duty members. We love to pray for those of us that remain at home. It can be anything from choosing your curriculum, dealing with a baby and older children all at once, juggling your schedule, to deciding which outside activities you should sign up for, your personal quiet time or your spiritual walk with the Lord. When our lives are going well and we are walking closely with Him, our military members can breathe easier knowing we are doing well. And if we, as fellow military homeschoolers can lift one another up in prayer, that too frees our guys from bearing that burden alone.

So please, don't hesitate to let us know how we can be praying for YOU specifically. We are here for you! We are all part of the military homeschool family!

You may complete the form provided her or the one that remains permanently on the side bar!

God bless! ~Trish

Joy in the Lord

By Janet Kelly

One of my favorite hymns is “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.” Every time I hear the beautiful notes Beethoven wrote and sing the verses, I feel my spirit soar. I am drawn into a worshipful spirit as I am reminded of the promises and love letters God has given me, and all of us, in His Scripture and in the world around. These He has given to us freely and in His perfect love.

"The joy of the Lord is your strength" (Nehemiah 8:10) (NIV). This is a verse that not only is easy to learn, but speaks deeply to our hearts. As I was looking at this verse for this month, I pulled out my Webster's Dictionary to see the definition of joy. I love what it says. Joy is defined as gladness to rejoice or to be glad. Taking it one step further, the word glad is defined as to be pleased or satisfied. How can we be pleased or satisfied in the Lord?

Though I think it there are many parts to the answer, I believe the key is based on the time we spend in His Word. The more time I spend in the Word, the more I not only learn about myself, but the more I learn about our God. He teaches me about His immutable and everlasting love, mercy, and forgiveness. When I spend time reading His love letter to us, I begin to find joy! This joy rises above my circumstances and gives me a strength that can only be found in Him. The joy of the Lord becomes so apparent in everyday life! Our circumstances may not change, but we are changed when He, through His Word, opens up His arms and gathers us close to Him. Then our joy returns and we find the strength that only comes from Him. We become joyful despite the struggles we are facing, whether they be a financial need, a health concern, or watching a friend, family member, or child choose to walk down a path away from the Lord. We find joy because, through the knowledge of God's Word, we draw closer to Him and find our strength. That joy comes from our relationship with the Source of joy. There is joy in the journey!

Memory Verse: Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV): "The joy of the Lord is your strength."

Father's Day Tribute

As we come upon Father's Day, let us bring honor and joy to our husbands with our words and deeds. As we start each day with the need to teach our children’s minds, let us not forget to teach their hearts as well. As I have been reminded of lately, we should also daily pray for our children. I encourage you to pray for your children together (if you are able), with your husband. Praying scripture over them is a wonderful way to pray specifically for them and watch as God fills your children with His wisdom, bringing joy to you and your husband.

An example would be praying Colossians 1:9-10.

"Heavenly Father, we have not stopped praying for ______ and asking You to fill ______ with the knowledge of Your will. We pray for spiritual wisdom and understanding for ______. Strengthen us with Your wisdom and discernment, to nurture our gift(s),_________.

We pray that _____will live a life worthy of You, Lord. We ask for Your guidance to help us teach him/her/them how to live in You. We lift up our child/children ________, that he/she/they may grow in the knowledge of You, bearing fruit through good works and pleasing You in every way. Amen.

For Father's Day:

Proverbs 10:1 (NIV) "A wise son brings joy to his father."

Remembering our fallen soldiers

As another Memorial Day approaches, I feel somewhat at a loss for words. I have always loved our veterans and been so thankful for all the men and women over the generations that gave their lives for our Freedom. I get very sentimental thinking of all their sacrifices and their families' sacrifices.
It hit especially close to home 3 years ago when my husband lost a dear friend in the attack on the 507th Maintenance Company in Nasiriyah. It came home again a couple of months ago, when my brother shared that one of his Ranger buddies had been killed trying to stop a carjacking. For those reasons, I dedicate these words, which my brother wrote in an email, to Marty Ratazack (75th Rangers), and Robert J. Dowdy.

"I have lost fellow soldiers in places that no one ever mentions or cares about or maybe ever will. It's the essence of being a soldier, complete, selfless sacrifice. Many of them are "unknowns" to a country that is too busy going about their lives to notice or care. You don't care that anyone else will care, you do it because it's what soldiers must do. That is the essence of serving. It's done even for those who never stop to think about it and that's ok." (Mark Isbell, former Ranger and Grenada veteran)

Well put, Mark. God bless our beautiful Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines. God bless their families.

Psalm 30:5 (KJV) "Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning."

PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER REQUESTS - May 25, 2006

Posted in Chapel

Pray for President Bush, meeting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair 5/25-26, asking God to guide them as they consult on the new Iraqi government, Iran’s nuclear program, peace in the Middle East and Darfur.

Now that President Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Olmert have met, pray that their resolve that Hamas must stand for peace, abandon terror and accept previous agreements with Irael will be honored. Pray for progress toward peace in the Middle East.

Give thanks for the unity government in Iraq under the leadership of Prime Minister al-Maliki, praying for this, the first full term Iraqi government to succeed in standing on its own political feet, and for success in taking over the vital operations of that nation, including security, restoration of utilities and services and movement toward normal life.

Pray for the President as on 5/27 he gives the commencement address at West Point—that he will inspire graduates to serve our nation well. Pray for graduates of all schools and universities this spring to find meaningful vocations and positive ways to serve.

As the nation observes Memorial Day, pray that all Americans will take time to remember the sacrifices made by generations of military. Pray that our nation will be stirred to repentance and prayer, particularly prayer for peace and prayer for those in harm’s way.

As the Senate Intelligence Committee has approved Gen. Michael Hayden as CIA head, pray for the entire Senate as they vote on this important matter.

As the start of hurricane season approaches, pray for officials and citizens near hurricane-prone areas to be prepared for any eventuality in the coming months and for a mild storm season. Pray for those rebuilding the Gulf Coast.

As the nation gives thanks for our freedoms, remembering the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines who have sacrificed for us, pray for the protection of every person in military service, particularly those in harm’s way. Pray also for peace in Iraq, Afghanistan, Darfur and around the world.

Presidential Prayers for 18 May, 2006

Posted in Chapel

This is a feature I've done over on my personal blog for quite some time. I've decided to bring it over here as well. Please visit Presidential Prayer Team for more information.

As the President has presented his plan for immigration reform, pray for him and members of Congress crafting a bill that will work for America, giving thanks for the many answered prayers already evidenced. Pray for a strong spirit of cooperation among all leaders involved.

As President Bush has nominated Gen. Carl Hayden to lead the CIA, pray for the confirmation process, beginning today. Pray for him as he prepares to step up to lead this important agency of our government.

Pray for the President as on 5/18 he travels to Yuma, AZ, in support of border security and immigration reform. On 5/19 he will speak at the American Competitiveness Initiative in Highland Heights, KY. On 5/23 he meets with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of Israel at the White House. Pray for these meetings and for peace in the Middle East.

Pray for continued breakthroughs as the U.N. Security Council works to bring help and justice to protect the innocents of Sudan.

As the EU 3 offers an incentive to Iran to freeze its uranium enrichment program, pray for the success of this effort, asking for God’s wise and miraculous intervention. Pray for U.N. Ambassador John Bolton as he works with other leaders on this situation.

Pray for residents and relief workers as they work to recover from this week’s destructive floods in NH and MA. Pray for Govs. Lynch and Romney as they lead in the aftermath of this disaster.

As the controversial movie, Da Vinci Code premiers this weekend, pray for the impact it will make on our country, among believers and non-believers alike. Pray that those seeking to engage others in meaningful conversation about the Christian faith will have God’s help and blessing. Pray that all who view it will distinguish fiction from fact.

Pray for our troops as they serve the cause of freedom, asking God to protect and encourage each one. Pray for troops who may be deployed to support Border Patrol agents along the Mexico border.

Proverbs Challenge

Posted in Chapel

In last month's issue of the Home Front newsletter I shared about how my daughters and I have been working on hand copied versions of the book of Proverbs. And I also asked if anyone wanted to join in that challenge. Then I forgot to post a place on the blog to follow-up on it.  But for some reason it just popped back in to my head today! (Thanks Lord!)

If you are interested in finding out more about this challenge and joining in check out the archives to the newsletter here and then come back and tell us you want to join us.

I can't wait to hear how others decorate their pages and what you use to copy them in. I also can use the encouragement to keep going on this endeavor so please let me know how you are progressing along too!

I will add something to the side bar to make it easy to come and post your progress so be on the look out for that shortly!

Adopt our Troops...PLEASE!

Posted in Chapel

I just received this email from The Presidential Prayer Team and feel strongly about encouraging everyone to participate. I added a direct link button to Adopt Our Troops on the side bar as well. After you have signed up to particpate please leave a comment and let me know about YOUR troop! God bless America and Our Military! ~ trish

This Sunday, March 19 marks the 3rd anniversary of America’s invasion of Iraq. And while our nation remains divided on the war, one certainty remains: our Armed Forces courageously serve us every day, at home and abroad, in harms way, defending our freedoms. Their sacrifices are numerous and substantial. And now, with 1,500 troops rooting out insurgents in Samarra with Operation Swarmer they need our consistent support and they deserve our faithful prayers.

That’s why The Presidential Prayer Team is encouraging you to join our ADOPT OUR TROOPS Prayer Initiative. With a few simple steps, you can select a member of the Armed Forces to pray for daily and receive ongoing updates about their needs and prayer requests. You can also register a troop to be prayed for by hundreds of Americans nationwide.

I invite you to view this moving Armed Forces eCard that celebrates the service of our military, and at its conclusion you will have the opportunity to respond by adopting a troop in prayer or by registering your troop for adoption. Please, also help us enlist others in this vital prayer initiative by forwarding this email on.

With a heart full of prayer for our dedicated troops,

John Lind
President/CEO

Prayer for Our Troops

Posted in Chapel

"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.  Protect them as they protect us.  Bless them  and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need.  I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.   Amen."

When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our troops (land, air, and sea) in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iraq, and around the world.

Of all the gifts you could give the US Military, Prayer is the very best one.....
