Learning How to Dance

Has anyone tried to teach themselves how to dance by movie or internet somehow?

Early December my sister LA and I started to learn and teach the rumba. We would watch it on this DVD we got from our library, learn the steps, and then teach it to our 3 youngest siblings and their friends.

Kind of an amusing thing to try to teach both my brothers, lol. My youngest brother was thinking dancing was kind of girly, but we convinced him there were girls out there who might like it if a guy knew how to dance. The only reason we started with the rumba was because it was the first dance on the movie.

They all caught on so well! But, sadly to say, it wasn’t long until we weren’t able to get a step down etc. The DVD we were using was pretty confusing though. I guess the most confusing part was trying to get the steps down from different angles. And the guy, who was teaching it, didn’t explain things very well at all! The kids were having a great time learning how to dance though, so some of them were disappointed when we couldn’t continue.

I would still love to learn how to dance! I’m mostly interested in ball room dancing. Plus, I’d still love to teach it to my siblings. I might try to take lessons this coming fall, but we’ll see about that. I guess dancing has always intrigued me. Some of my favorite movies are my favorites because of the dancing in them! Speaking of dancing movies, Step up was a pretty neat movie. Oh yeah, my oldest sister is playing the part of an extra in the one that’s coming out in February! I think that’s pretty cool.

I would love any suggestions or recommendations of useful movies or websites, or anything along the lines of that, if anyone has any!

Hope eveyone has a great weekend!

Ooh, dancing! I used to take ballet for about 6 years, and I really miss it. Lately I've been really interesting in Irish step dancing since my sisters and I play a lot of Irish fiddling songs. We found a video of some at my library called Celtic Feet, and successfully got down 1 step--out of too many to count :-). I agree, the explanations on those tapes a lot of times go over your head, and they rush through it. It was still fun trying though!

Hello! Thank you for your comment.
Yeah, I like Francine Rivers, too. My friend gave me the Mark of the Lion series for my birthday, and I've really been enjoying it.
Sorry, I don't know anything about learning to dance from videos or internet... I've been in dance (ballet) classes since I was three! But I'd say it's possible!

Happy New Year!
