Homestead Blog Carnival and my monday musings
There's a carnival going on! Check out the Homestead Blog Carnival going on over at Jocelyn's blog Amusing Reflections of a Country Girl
Never been to one? You'll like it this time it's a Thanksgiving theme. Lots of great blogs featured, I haven't even looked at them all myself. Grab a cup of tea and enjoy reading some posts about being thankful and of course some ideas for making that Thanksgiving feast to share with family. And my post about Pickles is featured. (giggle, jumps with excitement)
You can also click on the pretty sunflower on the right side of this page there and check out the other carnivals. Fun stuff!
We're back to the normal everyday here at home after having not planned to be here until tomorrow from the Quechua village. A couple days before leaving (last week) we had the truck looked at for some oil leakage and found that it was going to need a part we aren't able to buy for another week or so.
The good news is we found the problem HERE and not on the side of the mountain somewhere! And we are mostly packed for when we DO go! (hopefully soon)
Once again it's a bit frustrating that we haven't made it up for a while, but on the other hand we know God is in control and His plan is the best one! We'll trust that His timing is right and in the meantime do what we can here.
And speaking of that...
Shane and I are working on learning some basic Quechua vocabulary right now. We had been working on body parts this Summer so I decided to start making myself some little flash cards. I got three done today...I'll try to get some pictures up in the next couple days so you can see what I'm doing. After not having succeeded very well in finding a good time to study, I realized that during the morning while I have time in between helping the boys with school I can be going through flash cards of words and phrases. It's something that I can put down and pick up again at any moment unlike other types of language study where you have to sit in complete silence and focus. The time will come when I'll need to do that too, but for now this works!
Also up for this week is baking! But first I've got to work on getting some flour. I was given about 5 lbs or so of whole wheat. I need to go through and take out any "paja" (Spanish for chaff) and make sure there are no bugs and that it's clean enough to be taken to the mill to grind into flour. And "who will help me clean the wheat?" Maybe I can get some big and little guys to help me out! Here's hoping!
Thanksgiving day we plan to have a big Turkey dinner with some other missionary friends. I'm taking cooked carrots and rolls.
Sorry there's no pictures today. I've got some great ones on the camera though. Maybe later this week or next... |
