Baking day

Posted in Homeschool
The bananas were piling up.
They were looking awfully black.
I finally had baking soda.
And flour.
And all the other ingredients at the same time!

All this adds up to the perfect opportunity to show the kids how to make banana bread.

With my handy assistant Dane (who has made his share of banana bread on his own), we showed the younger kids how to crack eggs and beat them, how to measure dry and liquid ingredients, how to mash the bananas, and the rest of the process.

We made several loaves and then decided to make some soft pretzels too.

Yum!

That looks like such yummy good fun and tasty too ! I sure wished I was there to sample all that goodness. Ohhh btw you know what is very yummy is putting chocolate chips in the banana loaf. Not saying that we get to do that very often. Chocolate chips are a luxury in our house. [0=

Hi, Libby! Sorry I haven't stopped in lately! I haven't been blogging or surfing much lately -- too hot to get enthused about much of anything! Love Liam's pretzel name. I was just thinking about making soft pretzels the other day. Great minds think alike! ;^) Only I couldn't bring myself to heat up the oven to cook!

Gotta love banana bread and I totally agree with putting chocolate chips in. We only get chocolate chips a couple of times a year, though, so we're pretty stingy with them!

Sprinkling cornmeal around to get rid of ants -- GREAT IDEA!!! I'm going to try that. Soapy water is a good thing for the garden, too. We have a small white moth here that carries a "plague". I don't know whether it's their eggs or larvae or what, but the guys here call it "plaga" -- anyway, if you rinse off your trees, garden vegetables, flowers, etc. with your used laundry water, it kills the moth and keeps away the plague. So, we rigged up our washer to drain directly into the garden. As much as we wash clothes, it keeps all the trees, flowers and the veggies happy!

Anyway, hope you guys are doing well and look forward to hearing more about what's up in your part of the world.

I need to remember not to take it for granted that I have all the ingredients to bake. :-)
