Giving Blood

I have my c-section scheduled for the 11th of April.  The doctor insisted that we go to the hospital this morning so I could donate blood for myself in case I need it.  I have a A- blood and they usually have no blood at the hospital other than maybe some o+.

When we got to the hospital, the staff looked and acted confused and told me I couldn't do that.  My doctor happened to be there and told them I could.  They said they would need to run a blood test first to check for something or another that I didn't understand in Spanish.  Something about my blood has "blah blah blah" because I am pregnant and that pregnant ladies do not give blood.

Well, they tested me; it was fine; I donated my blood; they gave me jello, cereal and juice afterwards :)  Yum!

My husband was in the waiting room with all the chitlins and talked to the lab tech.  He was asking if it was normal to require a blood transfusion with a c-sec.  She said that yes; that they have had increasing deaths there at the hospital from c-sec patients needing blood and so it is now standard protocol to have donated blood on stand by (there is no blood bank around where we live).  After that comforting statement, he asked her why everyone seemed so confused then when we came in to donate and she said because the pregnant lady will bring in a family member or neighbor to donate; they do not donate themselves.

It all went well; hopefully I won't need my blood back.  Only 12 days until we meet our new little boy!

Praying that all goes well. Is this your first C-cection? I didn't realize you were facing that. Our prayers are with you.
Blessings,

I will be praying. I have had c-sections with each of my deliveries. Praying for your comfort and that God's hand will be guiding the whole thing.
Be blessed,
Chasity

Jaynee,

Our family will keep you in our prayers as the birth of your baby boy approaches. May the Lord guide the hands of your physicians and give them great judgement and skill. We pray for a safe delivery for you and a safe arrival of the new little Lockwood.

We are very excited about your new little one and we're especially looking forward to finding out the name you and Daniel chose.

God Bless you, Jaynee!

Katie

Dawn- This will be my 3rd c-section. After 8 natural births (7 in the USA and 1 in Mexico), I had to have an emergency c-section with my 9th here in Mexico. I blogged about it at http://homeschoolblogger.com/missionarymommyto10/398306/
We tried with our 10th and with this little one to have a vbac, but no one will do it for us. I keep telling Daniel that we could just have the baby at home or at least do all the labor at home and arrive at the hospital in time to push, but he keeps saying something about me dying and him having all the guilt and having to care for 11 little ones while I am in heaven. Why do men always have to be so practical? :)
With Susannah, the emergency c-sec, I had a very difficult recovery (due to blood loss), but with Nehemiah, I was up walking around 6 hours later and went home the next day. I am praying for the same with this little guy :)
You can all pray also for the baby to arrive and remain healthy. They don't have a maternity section of the hospital. Last time we were in a room with a lady who may have had TB. Her coughing kept me and my room mate up most of the night. Both Nehemiah and my room mate's baby had severe respitory problems their whole first year.
Thank you so much for praying!
