10 Little Missionaries

Jan. 31, 2008 - Pictures from our time in the USA for Christmas

Here are some more pictures from our time up north. Apart from all the snow, the boys greatest memory from our trip was the morning that Grandpa, Daddy and Uncle Charlie took them shooting. Timothy down to Noah got to go and they all spent the entire morning target and skeet shooting out at Grandpa's house.
Next is a picture of a get together we had with Daniel's family the weekend after Christmas. Daniel is the oldest of 12 children, of whom over half are now married with children of their own, so we had quite the gathering. Pictured is most of the clan. We enjoyed a time of good food, fellowship, some singing, gift exchange, and ended with a Christmas Bible Quiz for all the little ones.
The third picture doesn't really have anything to do with Christmas other than the fact that the girls are wearing their new nightgowns that daddy and mommy got them for Christmas. They have so much fun getting ready for bed each night and I love the time we spend snuggling, reading a book and praying together before I kiss them good night each evening. I also love to hear them giggle like girls before they drift to sleep (as long as they don't carry on more than a few minutes :) ).
The final picture is of Nehemiah on Christmas morning. He was so very sick the entire first part of our trip, but we were so thankful we had the nebulizer, all his medicine, and that he was able to stay at home with us rather than at the hospital. The Lord answered our prayers and we were so thankful that he is doing much better again.

Jan. 31, 2008 - SNOW :)

I am so sorry it has been so long since I've updated here. With the holidays, traveling, and then getting back home and back to the work of daily life and the ministry, I'm just now getting back to the computer.
On the 16th of December, we had our Christmas service here in Mexico. It was a very special service with over 90 people in attendance. The children's choir sang, we sang Christmas carols and other hymns as a church, and then Daniel preached the gospel as we remembered the birth of our Saviour. Afterwards, we enjoyed a time of tamales, posole, and fellowship before the evening ended.
Then next day, we left to head to the USA to spend Christmas with our family. We were blessed to spend 3 weeks up north with our family, church and many friends. The time just flew by as we had so many people we wanted to visit and so much catching up to do. Daniel's brother Joel and his wife let us stay in their guest house and they, along with our home church, were so sweet in getting it all fixed up and stocked with supplies for our stay.
The children had been praying for the past month that there would be snow when we went north, and the Lord was so good to give them snow to their hearts content! We were thankful for some loaned coats for the children as our "mexican blood" isn't accustomed to those winter temperatures much anymore. :)
We praise the Lord for keeping us safe as we traveled over 3,000 miles this past month. We were so thankful once again as we pulled up to our property here in Mexico to have a home to "come home" to also. After a few days of unpacking, laundry, and cleaning, we started back in to our daily routines... Daily soul winning, visiting, discipling, and work projects for Daniel ~ home schooling and caring for the home and family for Jaynee.
Thank you so much for all of your prayers and now that we are back home, I look forward to regularly updating you all as we continue on laboring in the Lord's field here in Mexico.

Dec. 15, 2007 - Our little Nehemiah's first birthday!

Last night, we celebrated Nehemiah's 1st Birthday. He doesn't actually turn 1 until the 18th of December, but since Lord willing, we will be leaving on the 17th to head to the USA, we all thought it would be much better to celebrate here at home rather than in the van :)!
We are so very thankful for the blessing of our little guy! He's brought much joy to our home and everyone loves to "love" on Nehemiah all the time. He's really a sweetheart! As is our family tradition, we went around the room giving each person a chance to "bless" Nehemiah and say why they love him. We all remembered when he was first born last year and wouldn't hardly wake up and didn't eat for 9 days. We just kept giving Him over to the Lord as we thought God just might call him back home to be with Him. Then we remember how very sick he was those first 6 months of life as he struggled with his breathing. He's always been a bit weaker and seems to catch anything that's going around...yet the Lord's so gracious and little Nehemiah is growing and doing well.
All of our children have a nickname~ some of them have many :) We call Nehemiah either "Miah" (what Susannah called him when he was first born) or "the bullfrog". We had a froggie birthday party for him. The children made frogs from paper to decorate the table. I made or at least attempted to make a frog cake :) We bought a pack of green mints and some green olives to place on the table too. Everyone had fun blowing up green balloons and making 3 banners to hang up in the room. One said "Happy Birthday Nehemiah"; another said the words of Nehemiah's song I sing him every night, "Jesus is the Sweetest Name I Know"; and the last one said "Psalms 127:3 "Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord and the fruit of the womb is His reward." For a special supper, I made homemade pizza~ 2 large pizzas for us and a little personal pizza for the birthday boy :)
Grandma had sent a gift for Nehemiah in the mail, so we let him open it. I just love his expression in that bottom picture. It is a little car dashboard/steering wheel and it makes car sounds and talks in English and Spanish. He had fun playing with it while we cleaned up from the party.
This week has been busy! We started out the week with most of the children under the weather with a couple of different sicknesses, but we thank the Lord they are all doing better now. We finished up 2nd quarter in our homeschool the week before, so we took this week to do some winter cleaning, Christmas baking, and other projects.
Tomorrow we will be putting together some goodie plates, and then in the evening, our church and our family will be going Christmas caroling. Sunday is our special Christmas service. Two Mexican Pastors from this state along with some people from their churches will be traveling to join us. We will be having a time of song, prayer, the children's choir will be singing, Daniel will be preaching, and then we'll end the evening with a Christmas Supper and gift exchange. Everyone is looking forward to it and we are praying that as our church invites their unsaved family members and neighbors to join us, that the Lord will open the hearts of many who will accept Him~ What a wonderful Christmas that would be!
Monday, we head "home" for Christmas. We are all excited about spending our first Christmas in 3 years with our family in the USA. We are looking forward to visiting and fellowshiping with our family, friends and church there. If the Lord brings us to your mind, will you please pray for the Lord to keep us safe as we travel, bless and direct our time in the states, and that our church here in Mexico will continue to grow and enjoy fellowship together in our absence. Pastor Humberto from the next town will be coming to hold services each week.
Well, I have a little Noah (age 3) who's half asleep and crying for a drink. Merry Christmas!

Dec. 3, 2007 - Just a thought....

As missionaries, my husband and I send out a prayer letter every 2 months to those churches and individuals who are interested in and pray for our family and the ministry to which the Lord has called us.

We include pictures, and my husband writes a section about ministry news and family news while I write a letter to the ladies giving my perspective and thoughts :)  Our children love to help write too and enjoy taking turns writing a little column from their view point.

We are just finishing our current letter and will probably email it tonight or tomorrow morning. We also send copies via snail mail for those that prefer or don't have email, though coming from Mexico, "snail" mail lives up to its name and takes several more weeks to arrive.

I was just thinking that there may be some of you who read this blog who would be interested in getting our letter, so I thought I'd mention.  If you are, you can either leave a comment here or email me at lockwoods2mexico@juno.com

We appreciate so much all those who pray for us and the people here and enjoy hearing from you too.

love,

Jaynee

Nov. 26, 2007 - Thanksgiving Day and Our Little Pilgrim.......BOY!!!!!!!

Psalms 103:2- "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits"
In the words of our little ones, we had the "bestest" Thanksgiving Day ever! We pray you all had a very blessed time remembering the countless benefits of our wonderful God.
We really had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. I told the children after we got home from mid week prayer meeting then night before that they could stay up and help me roll our the cinnamon rolls for the morning. As I tucked them into bed, I told them they could sleep in a bit the next day too (of course hoping to catch a bit more sleep myself ). But the next morning, their excitement for the day ahead brought most of them hopping into our bed by 6 am.  We had fun talking, cuddling, and snuggling together for a while. Finally, we all got going on morning chores, and met around the table for those home-made rolls and hot canela (a hot tea make with cinnamon sticks). We finished reading the book we'd started earlier in the month- "Stories of the Pilgrims" too.
Earlier that week, Daniel had hired a man to help us begin putting a fence around our house. We still needed to pay him for his labor, which made necessary a trip into the next town to go to the bank. Since we were going to be making the trip, we called our OB doctor to schedule a checkup for me and the little Lockwood growing inside me. We all cleaned up from breakfast, climbed into the van, and headed to town.
While the children sat in the waiting room, Daniel and I went in for my check-up. We were thankful that both mommy and baby are doing well and are happy to announce that this new little pilgrim (according to the doctor's interpretation of the u/s) will be a......
BOY!   How excited and thankful we are to be expecting our 8th son. The girls were a bit disappointed as they are a bit out nubered, but as soon as I started talking about making the baby a blanket and finding some new blue sleepers, they were giggling and deciding who would dress the little guy first.
We came back home and while the little ones took their naps, the older ones helped mommy in the kitchen. We'd put the turkey in that morning and it was well on it's way to being done. Benjamin cut all the potatoes (25 of them), Rebekah worked on the vegetables, I made the stuffing, and the rest of the crew took turns shaking the cream to make butter for the biscuits. The afternoon before, the boys cut up peaches and apples and we baked a peach cobbler, apple pie, and a blueberry pie. Though we missed having pumpkin pie and yams, it was a bountiful feast we all enjoyed so much~ beans and rice and tortillas are great, but there is just something about mashed potatoes!
While I finished the meal, the children all stood at the counter and made turkeys with apples, raisins, marshmallows and toothpicks. Josiah said he made a porcuipine instead and Noah was basically eating his as fast as he was putting it together. They had a great time and after I snapped a few pictures of their creations, they enjoyed eating their special snack
As we sat down for our Thanksgiving meal, we all went around the table taking turns saying what we were thankful for this year. We have so much for which to bless the Lord and we just loved hearing the children share what they were thankful for too...it went on for quite some time...it was so precious.
When I was going through the pictures I took that day, apart from the one when we all sat down to eat (which, of course, did NOT turn out...it was super blurry...my dh looked like a whirl), I didn't get any pictures of Susannah.  I assure you all, she was there...probably sitting under the counter licking out the mixing bowls and beaters knowing her!
Have a wonderful week in our blessed Savior!

Nov. 17, 2007 - Busy Busy

I keep saying to myself that I will update here every week, but never do.    I always want to post pictures, and that is the main reason I put off updating...it takes so long to download the pics to my computer and then upload them here and post them and all.  I guess I should just write...pictures or not.

Let's see...the past couple weeks have flown by as we've kept so busy.  Daniel is working to put a fence around our property trying to get it done before we leave to go to the states for Christmas.  He finished building a small room in the back of the property where he can securely store his tools and other storage....YEAH...our bedroom no longer looks like a garage!

The children have been under the weather all week.  They have upset tummies...no one has been hit too bad except for Nehemiah (who turns 11 months Sunday...such a little squirt at only 17 lbs.).  He's been vomiting and filling his diaper off and on for a week now.  He's always battled with his health, but he seems to not be dehydrated and we are praying the Lord will heal his little body from this bug soon.

WIth the hurting tummies and the extra laundry that comes with that package, we didn't get much school done this week, but the ones of us who were feeling good enjoyed doing some projects around the house together while the sickies sipped on gatorade and watched.

We got all the storage stuff moved from the house (mostly from our bedroom and some from the boys room) out to the new back room.  We organized closets and did lots of cleaning.  I read outloud a lot to the children, especially books about the Pilgrims and early colonial days.  We did Thanksgiving crafts too and planned out our Thanksgiving menu.

There, of course, is no Thanksgiving Day here in Mexico.  In fact, just 2 days before Thanksgiving, the Mexican's have a big holiday...their Revolution Day.  They will have marching bands from all the schools and parties all day. I love our American history~ their love for the Lord, their sacrifices for their families, their courage and bravery, their endurance and their gratefulness. I bought a simple book with worksheets that gives a basic overview of Mexican history because I wanted the boys and I to learn about it.  Oh, how very depressing and sad~ it is filled with greed and selfishness...such a contrast from ours.  Even on their money, they have pictures of 'gods" and idols printed.  Though they no longer worship those particular images, as a country, they are no closer to knowing the true God.  It always burdens me more for their precious souls.

Well, to end on a lighter note, Noah (our 3 yo) had a bit of an accident in his pants this week during his battle with the tummy bug.  I told him to go to the bathroom, take off his clothes,  and I'd get him a new outfit.  I came back in, he was stripped, and I said, "Before you put on your underwear, bend over so I can check if your tushy is clean."  He spun around, grabbed both "cheeks", bent over, and said, "Cheese".    What a nut !

May you all have a blessed Thanksgiving~ Psalms 100.

love,

Jaynee

Nov. 3, 2007 - Our three oldest children were baptized!

Posted by Picasa
Picture 1- Timothy about to give his testimony (look at his face...he's nervous =) )
Picture 2- Elijah about to give his testimony
Picture 3- Rebekah with Daddy as he prays
Picture 4- Gathering around to sing a hymn before the baptisms
Due to an extra busy weekend last week, I was unable to update last Saturday~ sorry! Every day is so full, yet so blessed. Sunday, October 21st, we had a special service...our 3 oldest children wanted to follow the Lord in baptism and Daddy was so blessed to be able to baptize each on of them. We have taught each of our children (daily) the gospel, but never tried to coax them into trusting Christ as their Savior. We continually point them to the Savior...humbly teach them we all have sinful hearts, rejoice in God's grace and the gospel that covers our sin and the abundant mercy and forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ our Savior.
Our 3 oldest children have accepted God's gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and as parents who know their children, we've seen the fruit and work of the spirit in their lives. They began asking if they could get baptized, and as we prayed and talked with them, we saw their understanding of believer's baptism as well as their desire to follow the Lord's command in it.
In the post below, I've posted some pictures of the baptism part of the service.
After the baptism, a time of singing and the message from God's Word, we went outside and enjoyed a fellowship dinner of posole (a soup made with meat and corn) and bread. After we cleaned up, I drove some of the people back home while others stayed, sang hymns and roasted marshmallows around a bon fire.
For the past 6 months, we've been holding services in our home. We take out our dining room table each week, and set up chairs in the dining room and living room. As more people have begun to faithfully come each week, we have been running out of room to accomodate everyone. We were praying about what to do when the Lord opened up the door for us to use an old church building. An apostolic church in this town built a small building where they use to meet. About 3 or 4 years ago, the church had a split and disolved and the church building has been sitting vacant ever since. Daniel found the owner of the building and asked if we could possibly use it. They said yes! We are able to use the building RENT FREE (we just have to pay the light bill) until they need it again. It has homemade wooden benches inside and is simple yet perfect. We've met there last Sunday and Wednesday and will be over there again this afternoon to go soul winning and invite the people from that area to service tomorrow.
The Lord is so good. We've seen Him answer so many prayers these past few weeks, and we humbly rejoice in His gracious hand in our lives. Thank you for your prayers for us and the people here...the Lord truly hears and is working!

Oct. 20, 2007 - A good week :)

Hi all!  I'm sorry it has been so long since I've written.  Thank you everyone for your sweet comments...they are just the best little blessings and I love reading each one.  :)  I'm soooo thankful that I've been feeling soooo much better lately.  The Lord is so gracious and my morning sickness is now really not much more than feeling queasy every now and then, but able to be back to functioning as normal.  With that, we've got back into our schedule in full swing, which leaves me very little time for the computer.  Saturday nights are really the only time I have to spend any real amount of time on it, so I've had fun catching up on all your blogs, answering emails and googling "how to care for a pet rabbit" since our neighbor have Timothy one the other day.  Add that to our 2 dogs, 3 scorpians, 4 lizards of various types and sizes, and we have quite the collection! :)

Daniel and the boys kept busy helping a widow lady in our church most of this week in the afternoons.  She has a small brick house with a kitchen attached to the outside of it...the kitchen was made up of pallets, plywood, and little bit of everything.  It had started to fall over a couple of weeks ago, and Daniel and the boys were excited to be able to serve her by putting up a new kitchen...made of cinder block...much stronger!   It was a joy for them to be able to serve the Lord through serving her.

This was a really good week.  We got soooo much done.  A few years ago, I was given the book "Managers of Their Home" by Steve and Teri Maxwell.  It is book about scheduling for homeschooling families, and the Lord taught me so much through it.  I have always been a very organized person, but the Lord so graciously taught me a couple of important truths through what the Maxwell's shared.  For one, I always seemed to be sooo busy, but never had enough time to get everything done.  I learned that the Lord has given me the time to do the things that HE wants me to do.  Which brings me to the next thing I learned....ask HIM.

Every school year and then again in the summer, we make our schedule.  I spend usually a few weeks first praying over what the Lord wants me to spend my time doing.   I then make a list for myself and then for the children of things we need to accomplish each day and then how much time each thing will take each day.  If someones schedule is "too full" (usually mine!), I ask the Lord what I should or should not do.  I always show my lists to Daniel too for his input/desires as I want to please him and he's often given much wisdom in helping me make a decision about something.

Finally, I write out our schedule.  It is broken up into usually 30 minutes slots and we just follow it all day.  Usually after the first week, everyone has it down and things run so smoothly and we, over time, are blessed to see so much fruit as we have made little but faithful steps every day towards our goals.

Maybe someday, when I can't think of anything else to write about, I'll post our schedule...although that would probably be not the most exciting read :)   Well, it's getting late...Daniel is still out visiting.  We are having a big posole dinner (a soup) and a singing time around a bon fire outside with our church tomorrow night after service.  I pray for many of you daily...have a wonderful week in Jesus....God is sooo good!

Oct. 6, 2007 - I could never handle that many children...

Do you ever hear comments like that?  I hear these things all the time:

*How do you do it?  I only have 2 (or 3 or 4 ect...) and I have my hands full.

*I don't have the patience to have that many.  I'm glad that you do.

*You must be an amazing woman.

I love to smile and say, I am just a regular woman, but I love and serve an amazing God.  When I only had 2 or 3 children, I surely felt like my hands were full.  I use to think "If God had only given me 1 more hand..." :)   When I had 4 or 5 children, I felt the same way.  Then I came to realize, that when I had 2 or 3 or 4 children, I did not need the grace, strength, patience, ect... to handle 10 or 11.  The Lord gives HIs grace to us as we need it.  The Lord graciously blessed us with soon to be 11 little ones...and that same Lord who gave us our children is so good and faithful to give us the grace we need to train them, love them, nurture and care for them, and bring them up in Him.

That being said, today was a good day.  Having all the grace I need to bring up my 10, Daniel/Daddy took 3 of them with him all day to put up a new roof on the kitchen of a widow here in town.  Having just the little ones and the girls with me, the house seemed extra quiet :)  We all worked together on the morning chores, then I sent the wee ones outside to play in the back yard while the girls and I had fun in the kitchen.  In 2 1/2 hours we made:

A HUGE pot of split pea soup (with ham and potatoes and carrots and onions...yum)...it fed 13 people for lunch with some left over for next week :)

2 loaves of whole wheat bread

2 crockpots full of apples simmering for apple butter

4 lbs of honey granola and

A dozen hard boiled eggs (one of Daddy's favorite snacks we like to keep on hand)

Besides the regular chores, we:

Clean out, swept and mopped behind the fridge

Washed the kitchen walls

Washed all the bedding (we still have to make them...that's next after blogging :) )

And Cleaned out and organized the girl and boys closets.

And it is not yet 6 pm!  Woo hoo!

I'd love to post some pics of our yummy kitchen creations and some of Juanita's roof project...but Daniel took the camera with him and hasn't gotten back yet...maybe I'll put some up later.

Have a wonderful day in our Amazing Lord!

Sep. 28, 2007 - Awwww....I got a reward

I was given the following award by sweet jess4him.  Wow, I've never received a blogging award before!  You just "made me smile"!    It has been so encouraging to glean so much wisdom from the fellow bloggers here at homeschoolblogger, especially being here so far away.  Thank you Jess!  You bless me too by your love for our Lord, your husband and family, and your beautiful pictures of Alaska...they are a breath of fresh air when the greenest thing we see here is a dead cactus!

The award creater said:

The thing that I love most about blogging is that I learn so much about a person just by reading their blog. I have met MANY wonderful people with wonderful stories to tell and I am grateful every day for each person that I have the pleasure of crossing paths in life with.

I wanted to create something special for the top ten people who have inspired me through their blogging; the stories they tell and the lives that they lead with grace and dignity. I visit their blogs for inspiration and encouragement.

Now I need to pass this award on to some much more deserving friends:

Ruth: Because she fills her posts with God's Word which always refreshes my soul

Dawn: Because she just commented on my blog twice in a row which made me smile :)

I wish I could pass this on to more, but I've already spent WAY too much time posting this entry...it took me forever to figure out how to do it all (links, post the award ect...), but at least I learn a bunch of stuff!  The children are all snuggled in bed for the night, and I need to get there too.

Oh, one more thing...Our little birthday girl Susannah had an eventful day.  Last night, she was playing in the bedroom with her sisters.  Rebekah (dd age 8) was on the bed and Susannah wanted to get up there too, so Beka grabbed her hand to help her and according to Rebekah, "I was helping her and then I heard a 'pop' and Susannah screamed a lot."  She couldn't move her arm...it didn't appear swollen, but she was definately hurt.  I was finally able to settle her down and so I googled her symptoms online and found what she had...Nursemaid's Elbow.

Basically, when a young child's arm is pulled to hard, the elbow dislocates and some of the soft tissue gets caught up in the joint causing extreme pain and immobility.  It is commonly called "Nursemaid's Elbow" because it is commonly caused by someone caring for the child who will be holding the child's hand then they fall and naturally try to keep them from hitting the ground by pulling up.

This morning, after a restless night, Daniel took Susannah to the hospital in the city.  They x-rayed her arm and said, "She has 'Codo de la Niñera'".... or Babysitters Elbow :)  I thougt it was funny they called it by the same name.  They simply twisted her hand and popped everything back into place.  She didn't even cry!  And she had instant relief and started using her arm immediately.  And to top it all off, the entire ordeal cost us 100 pesos...about $10!  Somethings here are so much simpler!

Now I've really gone on too long.  Thank you to all who read my blog and comment! :)  You all make me smile!

Sep. 26, 2007 - Happy Birthday Susannah

Today is our sweet little Susannah's 2nd Birthday.

Friday, we are taking a trip to the city and will pick up some special things to celebrate (ingredients to make a cake, some balloons, and a gift).  Grandma mailed a gift to Susannah earlier this month and she is looking forward to opening it tonight after prayer meeting.  The children made the day extra special for their little sister; they played with her all day, bought her a piece of candy, let her have the special bowl and spoon for breakfast, and colored her enough pictures to cover her entire bedroom wall!

I woke up this morning thanking the Lord for our precious little Susannah.  Susannah's birth story was amazing.  She is our ninth little blessing, and the second child I delivered in Mexico.  The morning of her birth (1 day past her "due" date) I got up from bed and started to bleed.  It wasn't a ton, but enough for me to put a bathroom hand towel there to stop it.  My husband drove me to our doctor, but found out he wasn't in town.  I thus far had given birth to all my babies naturally and was planning on having Susannah there in the doctor's office where he had a birthing room.

I continued to bleed, so Daniel took me to the hospital.  They examined me and said that I would be having the baby that day and needed to stay.  We didn't know what else to do, and no matter how much we begged and pleaded, they would NOT let Daniel stay with me...he had to wait in the lobby.  It was one of the hardest things I've ever done, yet the Lord's presence was so near and I felt at peace.  They put me on my back on a gurney without a pillow  in a hallway with another laboring lady.  They shaved me, forced me to take an ennema (I don't even know how to spell that word!), and hooked me up to an IV to which they added pitocin.  I was (an am) still learning spanish at the time and trying my best to understand all they were doing.  As time went on and my contractions increased, I began to bleed more and more.  Several people came in to see the "crazy tall white woman" who has so many babies.  Many of them ridiculed me for my beliefs, yet the Lord gave me strength and I felt so much calmer than I would have thought I would...in fact, when I think back on it, I think, "How did I do that and not totally break?"  The Lord is so good to give His grace just when we need it.

Anyways, I began bleeding so much, I pleaded with the nurse to have someone check me.  She checked the baby's heart rate which was getting a little low (as she put it), so she put me on some oxygen and said she was going to grab some lunch and would check me again in about half an hour. I told her that something wasn't right...I was bleeding so much.  She was very sarcastic and told me even though I may have had many babies, I was no doctor; that every pregnancy is different and I had to idea if something was right or wrong and to leave that decision to her.    I lay there alone, bleeding more and more, and just closed my eyes to pray.  My dh was in the lobby praying too the entire time, unbeknowst to him anything was wrong.

I began to get a bit light headed and thought to myself that I had to stay awake and try to tell someone.  Finally, a nurse came in the hall to check the other lady who was laboring too.  She saw me and said I looked grey.  I tried to lift my head to talk to her and blood shot out so far it hit the wall.  I remember her grabbing a couple of sheets to soak things up and her yelling for help.  I don't remember much more.  I was rushed into the OR for an emergency c-section.

Praise the Lord, little Susannah was born! She needed some oxygen for a while, but was out of the nursery that night weighing in at a healthy 8 lbs 9 oz.  I had to stay in the hosptal for a week until I could finally get up without passing out. I needed a blood transfusion, but they did not have my blood type there (we are in a very small town).  They ordered if from another city, but the wrong kind came in..twice!   But thankfully, the Lord protected us both and I we both came home the next week little worse for the wear. :)

How I thank the Lord for our beautiful daughter Susannah.  With her light blond hair and bright blue eyes, she attracts much attention here.  I ended my morning asking the Lord again for wisdom in leading each of my children to HIm, wisdom in training them, strength and grace for each new day, and that each one would grow up to love and serve HIm with their whole heart.

Sep. 23, 2007 - This is going to be quick`

My dh just pulled out in the bus to  pick up the people for our service here in a few minutes.  The children love going with Daddy on the route.  I stay here with the two youngest because sometimes people will arrive for service before they get back; this gives me a few quiet moments as little Nehemiah is napping and Susannah is playing dollies at my feet.

I use this time to pray for the people here and for the upcoming service.  I thought I would write a quick post though as I have a couple of minute and share something that's been on my mind.

We are the only homeschooling family that I know of in this particular state of Mexico.  As my children are growing and we continue down this blessed path of training and teaching our little treasure here at home, I'm always wondering about things. I don't know much about different curriculums or methods of teaching...when we left the states for Mexico, my oldest was just  7, so we had just began our journey in homeschooling.  I have used Abeka books for most every subject with all my children as that is all I knew of then and that is what we currently own.  Sometimes things seem dry though and I hear about so many other ideas...only I can't go to a homeschool conference or talk to a fellow homeschooler ect...

I know this is choppy as I need to get going, but I know there is so many of you out there that are so experienced and have traveled down this path.  If you ever could offer me any advice, wisdom, or ideas, I would so appreciate it.  Right now our children's ages/grades are 6th, 5th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, K, and a 4, 3, 2, almost 1 year old.  I'll try to be more specific as I think of particular questions I have a bit later.  Just wanted to put this out there...I just saw the computer on my way out and thought, "If I don't write now, I never will! :) "  Thank you and God Bless!

Jaynee

Sep. 20, 2007 - All Day Sickness (a.k.a. morning sickness) Routine

I first started feeling queasy about 4 weeks ago. It was mainly when I woke up in the morning or had an empty stomach. Within a week, it began to linger longer and any sort of strong smell (laundry detergent, food cooking, a diaper) would start me in the direction of the baño!  By last week, it just never let up and I've been spending much of my time in bed. It usually only last me through my first 3-4 months, but seeing as how I am not able to function as well as normal, we made some adjustments in the family to help keep things running as smoothly as possible.

1. I told my children that it is a lot different being pregnant at 34 than it was when I was 23 :) Mommy's getting old! But now I have lots of strong, sweet children to help me. They have done so well not only being sure to do their regular chores, but to help out in the things that mommy usually does, but can't do now.

2. I am so thankful for the many meals I have made with my little helpers working beside me. Since cooking is one of the most difficult things to do when I'm feeling yucky (next to laundry), I appointed Chefs Timothy, Elijah, Rebekah, Benjamin and Abigail to take over. I just have to set out the ingredients, give instructions, help light the stove, and supervise from the couch. They are enjoying being the cooks and doing a fine job.

3. Homeschooling- This is now mostly done in Daddy and Mommy's bedroom. We have a table and chairs in here where they can work; they get to snuggle up next to mommy and read their lessons. We've spent extra time working on their flash cards, doing spelling bee's, and reading which can all be done easily from bed.

4. Daddy- the nutricionist! :) Daniel has been so good in getting me whatever sounds good at the time...7-up, Gatorade, a plain baked potato, or a cup of hot corn. He's also done most of the shopping for me the past week so I don't have to and even picked up extra things from my list to give us some easier meals (Sandwhich stuff, cereal, ect...)

Timothy told me today that he is praying that I'll feel better soon, but that he has liked having the extra chores and enjoyed taking care of me. Daddy is gone out of town for the day and the children are doing such a great job of taking care of everything. Rebekah and Abigail came in the room a few minutes ago fussing over a game they were playing. Timothy walked in and said, "Don't worry, I can help them figure it out. I've seen you do it a lot. And if they can't work it out, I'll just have them put the game away and do something else, right?" Wow, they are growing up fast!

The Lord is so good to give me the grace and strength I need each time I go through this. It is also a time of increasing my faith and trust in Him. When I'm feeling really bad, I thank Him for being right there with me, giving us another little baby, and for all He teaches us through the hard times; then I just look over at little Nehemiah smiling at me with his big brown eyes and I smile too knowing that it is all more than worth it.

Aug. 30, 2007 - Exciting news!

We just found out....we are expecting number 11!  We are just as happy as can be the Lord has chosen to bless us with another little one.  Timothy is still 10 years old (until October), so right now I can tell people we are pregnant with our 11th and our oldest is only 10- and no twins :)  It's funny to see people's reactions to that :)  Well, I need to get going to bed...I need rest :)

Jul. 11, 2007 - Thought I'd finally start writing

I've had this blog for several months and never written anything.  I'm usually doing good to update the blog on our website (something dh wants me to try to do weekly...I'm working on that too!!).

I've been wanting for some time to just write down some thoughts...things the Lord has been teaching me and taken us through, things I just want to remember, random thoughts ect... So I'm doing to start tonight.

I usually don't have much time to spend on the computer as I'm busy doing the most blessed job in the world...caring for my man and our 10 little ones.  But I type faster than I write, so I'm going to give this a whirl.

I want to start with sharing how the Lord worked in my heart this week.  I'm so bubbling with joy...He is so good.  It is a long story, but to make it short, it has been a rough 4 years since Daniel (my man) followed the Lord's call to serve Him in Mexico.  So hard, yet so wonderful...I am seeing more and more how the Lord has used each trial and hardship to bring me to Him.

I can't wait to write this down, but Susannah is having a tough time sleeping...she's got a stomach bug, so I need to tend to her.  I'll write more later!

Feb. 15, 2007 - Little introduction to our family

I have been reading blogs from so many at homeschoolblogger for quite some time now, and am finally getting around to doing one myself.

My name is Jaynee (age33)....I am the wife to my dear, sweet, wonderful, never ceasing to amaze me husband Daniel.  We have been married for 11 1/2 years now, and in that time, the Lord has given us......10 precious children.  Roll Call:  Timothy (10), Elijah (8), Rebekah (7), Benjamin (6), Abigail (5), Isaiah (4), Josiah (3), Noah (2), Susannah (16 months) and Nehemiah (2 months).  No twins...all ours....line them up and they look like little stair steps.

We live in Cd. Insurgentes, BCS Mexico (about 800 miles below the US border) where the Lord has called us to share the gospel with the people here.

We have homeschooled since the beginning and LOVE it!

I never would have imagined 11 years ago that I would be living in a 3rd world country with 10 little blessings.....it has been the hardest thing I have ever done, and I wouldn't change one little bit of it (except for maybe me...I have sooo much to learn!! :) ).

I love the Lord Jesus Christ and my greatest desire is to know Him more and serve Him with my whole heart, soul, mind and strength....which at this time is being a help meet to my Daniel and mommy to our sweet blessings.

I look forward to getting to know many of you.  Oh....and we have a website.... www.lockwoodsministry.com   With lots of pics under "current news"
