Living and learning
I am so excited I made my first loaf of hand made bread today. It actually turned out great. The girls helped me we had a great time. They loved kneading it. The best part was eating it though. Its not as hard as you may think. Now if I can just figure out how to cut it best so that the slices aren't so big or so small that they fall apart. I used the beginners bread recipe from www.hillbillyhousewife.com. We learned to bake and learned math at the same time. What better way to learn measurement than hands on or (hands in) the dough lol.

Wow, thanks for that link! I've bookmarked the site for later perusal (when the kids are in bed).
As far as cutting bread goes, we have a cutting guide. It has a rectangular bottom that you sit the loaf on, and up two sides there are a series of plastic strips with space between them, kind of like the teeth of a comb. You just cut in the spaces between them. If you have any breadmaking shops near you, they'd probably have some.
I've heard some people say that using an electric knife makes it easier too. But I don't know, since we don't have one :)
