The Winter Blues
I definitely have them... the winter blues. It's so nice to return to my blog and find encouragement from people who care. Thankyou for your prayers and support. I cried when I saw so many people responded to my blog. I never expected it and am overwhelmed by such love and concern.
It was a good day today when a woman called me this morning, out of the blue, and invited me for coffee. I jumped at the chance to visit with someone. She is my sister's friend's sister (my sister lives in Australia). This woman just lives up the road and has two young children. I desperately need a friend. She invited another woman over too so now I have two friends. We went through the "wow, you homeschool" conversation. It's so hard to fit in with people who just don't get it and people who "cherish" their time without their children. The other woman's 2 year old was at creche (daycare) while she brought her two older girls with her??? I don't understand that? It's very common in NZ to send your children to playschool at 2!!!
Anyway, I got another call this morning from one of the women from my church. She is one of a very few who have young children and she told me that they're moving away. UGH! I really wanted to get to know her.
Well, I'm going to have to "choose my mood," which is what I've been trying to teach my children. My son, Nicholas, is constantly reminding me to be cheerful as Proverbs 15:15 says "A cheerful heart has a continual feast."

I was thinking as I read your post about the busyness that I've experienced in the last couple of weeks as I've run around trying to keep up with the social schedule. [A very bizarre episode in my life, that is for sure!] And, I have noticed one truth.
One can be very busy socially but still feel alone/lonely. i.e. A lady who lives just three houses down from me goes to the same church as I do. She has three children who are around the ages of mine. We had the chance to go to the waterslides together the other day. I was excited at the opportunity to get to know her better. But...I was disappointed. We seemed to have very little in common. She, also, doesn't GET the homeschooling thing. And sometimes I find that immediately puts a barrier up, and closes off a whole avenue of connection. Even though she is a Christian she didn't seem interested in talking about spiritual things. She is very busy and seems to live her life on the surface. I'm not sure what we have in common that would facilitate another get-to-gether. I will try again but...
My point is simply that lots of acquaintances doesn't necessarily mean feeling like you've connected intimately with someone. In all my week of busyness I recognized that only one or two of the "friends" are people who "fill my cup".
You were/are one of those people for me. I treasure the depth of our friendship that spans not only time and distance, but also a lifetime of memories. I love that we can talk about ANYTHING. That is real friendship - being vulnerable, speaking from the heart, sharing our good as well as our bad, feeling the connection that we have in Christ Jesus and being free to talk about that vital part of our lives.
There are few people out there who fit that description.
Praying that you will have a good day. May you sense God's presence in your home.
Blessings.
