We used to do play nights fairly regularly...not so much recently. Last night, however, we decided to do it again. The story can be found in I Kings 18:20-40 . It's the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel. You know the one...Elijah is the only prophet on God's side...Baal has 450 prophets. Both sides build altars and Elijah says whichever God starts a fire on their altar is the true God. Being the gentleman that he was, Elijah allowed Baal's prophets to go first. They, obviously, had a difficult time getting any attention from their god that didn't even exist...they resorted to cutting themselves and dancing around like fools. Elijah (forgetting momentarily that he was a gentleman), found the whole scene rather amusing and mocked the prophets with a tad bit of sarcasm saying, "Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened." I love that passage...you can almost hear him laughing at them knowing full well that his GOD is going to show up!
Anyway, I digress...when Daddy read about how they prepared the BULL for the offering, David (7) ran off to the kitchen volunteering to get the bull for the offering. He came back with a BOWL...and as soon as the others saw him, they, too, ran to get a BOWL to sacrifice. It was so funny...I think it struck me as so hilarious because we HAVE a BULL calf...these kids are very familiar with what a BULL is... So...we ad-libbed and cut up the BULL and put it in the BOWL for the offering.
Never a dull moment.
