Our New Baby!

On Sept 1st (Labor Day) at 11:50 pm our pregnant mare Lizzy gave birth to a beautiful little colt. He is the cutest little guy and we have named him Sebastian.

After Lizzy's milk came in and we knew the birth would be sometime soon,we had a week long trip planned to CA and then Carolyn had a 3 day church camp and then a week at Disney World helping a friends family with crowd control (7 children 10 and under). She was so worried that she would miss the birth and/or first few days after the foal was born. As it turned out the camp ended on the morning of Sept 1st and he was born that night giving her about a week a half with him before the Disney trip.

Trying to stand. He had quite a time getting on his feet. It was so funny to watch.

Finally up! Now he had to figure out the nursing thing. He kept putting his nose in the right area but then in his search he would end up going all the way under her and have to turn around and start all over again. It took him about an hour to get to his feet and then another 30-45 minutes for the placenta to come out and at about the 2 hour point he was finally nursing and we felt good about leaving them alone. We were back in bed around 2 am.
