Sanitary products
|
Ok girls, here is the low down on sanitary products. The main concern with pads and tampons is a chemical that is in the bleached paper that both are made from. The chemicals are dioxins. There have been studies reguarding these chemicals, one in Great Britain that reported 139parts per trillion (ppt) dioxins remaining in tampons, and 400ppt in pads. This sounds like a trivial amounts I know, but one of the dioxins that is present is called tetrachlorodibenzodioxin (TCDD). This one had been called the most toxic chemical ever produced. This bad boy is a known carcinogen (known to cause cancer), responsible for birth defects, liver damage, supression of the immune system, and sterility. This chemical can be absorbed very easily through your skin. Can you imagine using something like this on open membranes month after month for years. I can't even believe this is allowed to be marketed to us, the unaware public. Actually, I can believe it. There is so much that is being marketed to the public that is really harmful to their health, all for the all powerful dollar. Sickening isn't it. It really frustrates me at the mentality of the FDA. Some healthy solutions:
1. Make your own pads. I know this sounds ridiculous, but sanitary products haven't been around and easily accesible that long. People had to do something the thousands of years before mass marketing of femine hygene products. I have found several websites that tell you how to do this. I haven't tried this yet, but knowing how isn't a bad thing in case of an emergency.
2. Buy dioxin, bleach free disposable pads made from 100% cotton. Not only are these more comfortable, but the prices I have found are actually cheaper than Always. Also choose tampons that are made without super absorbant fibers which may increase the growth of staphylococcus bacteria. Studies show that all cotton fiber reduces the chances of this happening. You also want tampons that have not been bleached. It will state this on the packaging.
Ok ladies, what do you think about these apples? Looks like we've been duped into biting into some bad apples if you ask me. I am so thankful the Lord shows us dangers unaware. I hope some of you find this helpful. Let me know what you think. I know we can't worry about every little thing, but some things I do find very important. I want to take care of this temple the Lord has given to me to dwell in. I don't want to add any sickness that might be avoided, so please indulge me as I share my my findings. I pray your families are well, and that the joy of the LORD is your strength.
In the Holy name of Jesus,
Geanine

You've opened my eyes with this one. The way I am figuring it -- we need to research everything and than prayerfully make changes in our home. I need to get to making some of that detergent you pormoted and are using. I bought the Borax but I am having trouble finding the other ingrediant. Where can I get it? I think it starts with an F...
Thanking the Lord for wise women like you!

What do you think about using a diva cup? www.divacup.com - I bought one and think it worked really well and was so nice to not be tossing stuff in the garbage. You couldn't use it post-partum, but other than that it could be used! Anyways, just another option for people to check out! Never knew there was such a thing a while ago!

I have heard some women complaining about the diva cup on the welltellme forum (the link is on my site).

Diva cup can be uncomfortable to use and a bit difficult to learn how to do properly. It's a little messy sometimes, too.
Newborn cloth diapers actually work well for pads if you didn't want to actually make your own. It takes some learning there, too. Also, you need to have a bucket with white vinegar or such near your throne to soak the unpleasant things when they are used.
I'm allergic to feminine pads so it caused me to explore other options years ago.

I read somewhere that pads from the store can also make you bleed really heavy. What a surprise??!! Assuming it is true. Who wouldn't put it past huge corporations from making us bleed more to put profit in their pockets.... booooo
What I am really wondering about is diapers. Do they have this stuff in them? I use cloth part of the time...maybe I should use them ALL the time!
Looking forward to an answer.
Oh yes, an answer to your question at my blog. I DO USE WHOLE GRAINS! My husband got me a Vitamix for a gift one time. It is one wierd woman who gets excited over blenders for gifts. LOL I have pondered Serene's stuff but never gotten my hands on it...yet. The Hallaleujah diet is actually what cured my cervical cancer. (Well, God had been preparing that path before I got there. Long story.)
