The Greenhouse picture

Ok ladies,

I had made an entry about a greenhouse my sweetheart was making for us, but I hadn't figured out how to load pictures yet.  I have really been blessed with this simple structure.

Here is the beginning stages.

Here is my sweetheart, dd, and papa working hard.  We are so blessed with wonderful grandparents for our children.  Craig's parents live on the property connecting ours.  They are involved in most of our projects.  It has been such a help over the years.

Here it is with the heavy duty plastic on it.  I've have been quite busy planting seeds.  We had a bad cold snap a few weeks ago, and many trees and plants were bit back pretty badly.  I had bought and everlasting hydrangea bush last fall, and it looked dead after the hard freeze.  I put in in the greenhouse, and it has some new leaves coming out, yeah!

Isn't this fun??  I am having a blast with this stuff.  Aren't you proud Amy?

Here are some of the seedlings.  You can't really see them, but they are there.  There is calendula, and stevia, and some Illinois canteloupe (cantelope??sp..), that my friend Shawnee gave me.

Here are some window shelves my sweety made.  I like them better than window boxes.  You can switch out with the seasons easily.  At Christmas I go into the woods and dig up little pine trees to put on them, and in the fall I decorate with mums and pumpkins.

Here is my dd holding two of the six new additions at our house.  We have 2 mama cats, and they both are so proud.  I saw jenig's new kittens and they were so cute, I had to take a picture of some of ours too.  I felt like a midwife to these cats.  Kittens everywhere.  They had there litters three days apart.  It is such an exciting thing for my treasures.  They love playing with them, and dd is very motherly.

On another note, my ds turned 12 this last week.  We had a birthday party up in the mountains.  It was suppose to be warmer, but it was very cool.  Poshred1's family came.  We had a delightful time.  I have to share a couple of pictures.

Here we are.  We seem like normal people right?  Well think again.  We let our children in the water.  They begged.  How bad could it be right?  If you have ever been in the mountains of East Tennessee, you would know how cold that water was, if the temp outside was 65.  I must have been out of my mind.  I lost all sense of motherly instinct, and my children froze.  Some of my children forgot their change of clothing.  Had it not been for Amy's super stocked Burban we would have been in trouble.

a Here is Amy's youngest treasure swimming.  We laughed so hard when we saw this picture.  It's a reminder of our children's chattering teeth.  Poshred is good for me.  Much more laid back than I am.  She didn't seem to be near as stessed as me.  In our defense, they were only in for a few minutes.  Amy was right, they do get out when they are cold enough.

Have a blessed evening.

In Christ Jesus,

Geanine

THat river is painful to swim in in July, much less April! I let my kids wade up to their knees one year in March, and that about froze them!
Maria said you were discouraged about your blogging. It is hard sometimes to get started. The most important thing to get people reading your blog is to make sure you are reading theirs and leaving comments for them about their lives. It encourages people and shows you're interested in them. Even if you have quite a few steady readers, if you quit commenting on theirs, they will slowly disappear. Be patient, and also (I'm not at all saying you aren't) but try to be real in your blog, too. Be here to learn as well as to encourage. Those are just tips that I've learned over the last several months. Hope that helps some.
Have a great week. Oh, and if you can, come to Briana's piano recital next Sunday. We'd love to see you there.

I am impressed with your greenhouse--how cool is it that your in-laws live so close (and that you're happy about it, too). (:

My friends and I used to do polar bear swims in the middle of winter in the Adirondack Mtns....Whew---it's so exhilarating--your blood pumps so hard afterward--it's like you have this incredible feeling of being alive! Everyone thought we were nuts, but then we'd be so wound up from the excitement that people would join us. We finally stopped collecting converts when a friend got hypothermia, and that scared us (our friend recovered fine, but we never tried persuading anybody else to join us...) Now, I can't even imagine finding it fun!

(:

It is so strange to see a greenhouse and y'all wearing jackets! It was in the 90s here in Houston over the weekend. But strange how that is still not warm enough for me to get into the swimming pool yet! ;-)

What a blessing for you to have your in-law's so close! There is nothing like having quantity time to build lasting relationships with the grandkids-- and your hubby and you, of course.

Have a great week!

My daughter Abby would drool if she saw the pictures of your green house. She loves to garden and is looking forward to our small vegetable garden this summer. What a blessing to have the help of your family in constructing the home for your seedlings and plants! It looks like it is turning out splendid. Have fun!

What an awesome blog! I love the Smoky Mountains! It's where we run to when we need to escape. Your pictures are great. I still haven't learned how to post them so well, would you like to share your knowledge?

Thanks for reassuring me that this will pass! It is so frustrating to be unable to communicate completed thoughts. Did that even make sense?

And just for the record, I commented BEFORE reading Maria's plea. :) Actually I read all of your entries. I subscribe to your blog via bloglines. It is a very simply way for me to keep up with all of my favorite blogs.

May. 1, 2007 - Hi from Lori

Hi--it was fun to see a comment on my blog--thanks. (: Christopher is 3 and Natalie is 1. My heart is in homeschooling, and I expect that is the direction we will take. I really enjoy reading about other families homeschooling--it is inspiring, and sometimes daunting. Right now we are in the middle of a remodel and permit problems--our city seems to be somewhat corrupt, but I suppose that shouldn't be too shocking. Anyway, homeschooling is still happening, but almost nothing formal for the last two weeks--whatever is happening isn't being written down. ): Oh well, that's why I'm starting at 3 so I can ease into it...

May I add you to my friends'? I don't know what the etiquette is--it seems a ittle brazen to add someone without asking about it--but my list is a little lonely

Warmly,
Lori

You know you can always count on me to take care of things for you. Keep blogging!!!
It was too hot for us today -- I am spoiled with being indoors to much. I bribed my children with ice cream if they'd leave and they were so willing so we were off. I enjoyed it but would have loved it if it was just a tad cooler. I'm sorry I missed the plant give away -- that happens to me all the time.
I'm so glad Pat planned this. Maybe she can do it again on a cooler day. I'll stay the whole time and get the freebies. I do love free stuff.

Hi! If you don't mind my doing so, here is my FAQ page:
http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Jimmie/153593/
YOu can see the answers to most of your questions there. :-) I get asked those same ones over and over. It's just easier this way for me. Sorry to be like that.
I would LOVE the english muffin recipe. THANK YOU! YOu can email me. There is a link to my email address on my blog too.
Grinding grains -- yes, I have ground wheat berries on a very small scale for wheat bread. The wheat is low quality. I have to go through it grain by grain to separate the chaff, bugs, rocks, etc.! LOL! Sometimes my wheat bread turns out great, sometimes it's an absolute disaster. I have not perfected that. :-)

Oh, to have a good, close relationship with the grandparents! This is truly a blessing.

And an industrious husband, to boot. Gotta love that greenhouse. To be able to grow things is a blessing, too.

I swam in December once, when i was 11. I begged and pleaded and my Dad said yes. It was freezing in the water, but a whopping upper 60s outside. I'm cold just remembering it.

Hi,

Thanks for dropping by:) My husband took that picture while he was at the Men's Retreat at Henry Burggraf's. A Mr. "Parky" lives on (or near) Henry's property (which is near Jen). It's nailed to the shed where Mr. Parky slaughters pigs. Fasinating and Yucky!!!!

Have a Wonderful day!

My husband, Richard, couldn't say enough about Henry. Said he was one of the nicest, easy going, God loving, faith living people he had ever met. I hope to meet him and his family one day. I don't eat pork either so I'm not sure if it was chewy or not...well, I did take one teensy tiny nibble, but not enough to tell if it was chewy or not. We buy the turkey bacon too...I think it's mighy tasty myself!!!
We buy all organic (maybe with sprinkling of all natural here and there). I bet those chickens you get from your milk lady are DIVINE. There' is nothing like food raised and prepared like God intended. The taste difference is AMAZING!!!! I'm facing my last two food hurdles. I'm wanting to rid my pantry of boxed cereal, and my freezer of frozen waffles. What I purchase is very healthy (no sugars, organic, whole grain, etc)...it's just that...well...I just don't want it in there anymore. We eat a lot of porridge, scrambled eggs, toast and jam and stuff like that for breakfast. Any suggestions on ridding my family of frozen waffles and boxed cereal. I guess it's just as simple as "don't buy it anymore" (ha-ha). Seems pretty easy. Also, I've just started making my own dishwasher detergent and clothes detergent...it's AMAZING what a little vinegar, baking & washing soda and borax will do for you isn't it!!

Your friend in Christ,
Shay

I'm *so* glad I've "met" you...Big thanks to Maria for that!!!

Man...22 comments...aren't you excited!!!!

Thanks for thinking of my waffle/cereal issue! So do you just go ahead and make a LOAD of waffles/pancakes and freeze them...then pop them in the toaster/oven when needed??? I imagine you could wrap them individually in wax paper then freezer bag them?? Let me know how you do it when you have time.

Also, I'm bringing some kitties to Maria during Memorial Day weekend. My family will be coming to her house on Monday for ATIC. Will you be there?

We live in Enoree, SC. It's a *VERY* teensy, tiny little mill village. It's in the upstate about 2 to 3 hours from Sevierville.

Maybe we'll meet soon. Great to hear from you!

Shay

I love your greenhouse! You are Blessed to have a handy husband, I love my dh dearly but he is not handy. Not at all. I always have to call my brothers when something needs to be fixed. We visted Tennessee several times, Knoxville once and Gatlinburg several times. My dh wants to move there. I keep asking him, "when do I pack?".
