Well, me and Amy (poshred1) went and picked up two more truck loads of horse manure today. Our gardens should be spectacular if you measure it by the great fertilizer we are using. After we shoveled her load out at her home, we went back to get a load for my house. When we arrived I have to say I was pooped ( no pun intended). I was really tired. So we had the older treasures shovel. It was amazing how telling them they can have dessert motivates them. They unloaded the whole truck bed. It was alot. I was so glad to have help with that. Amy and I came in and cooked dinner and looked at Martha Stewart, Victoria, and Country Living magazines. We had fun looking at recipes and decorating tips. I've decided that I am going to take a picture of my bedroom and blog about it. It is such a sanctuary for me. I love it. It is a soothing room. I will have my ds take a picture tomorrow. We also have a lovely dogwood outside that is worth snapping a picture of. The Tenn. mountains are a beautiful place to live. My family has been here generations. It holds a special place in my heart. Anyway, hope everyone is doing well. Hope you had a good and productive day. In Christ, Geanine |

It always feels so good when the closets are cleaned out and ready for the new season. I was able to put my four new dresses nicely in my closet. I went "yard saling" on Saturday and found four incredible dresses for $2 each. They are like brand new, and they are so pretty. I feel so blessed. The Lord has always been so faithful to help me find great bargins. A thought on dress wearing. Have a great evening! In Christ Jesus, Geanine |

Ok ladies, this time they have gone to far. First I find out about sanitary products, then toxic diapers, now low and behold toilet paper. I mean really now, is it necessary? In a few of my other blogs we talked about the dioxins in the sanitary items and diapers. We know that the dioxins are linked to cancers, that makes me so adamently irritated by the way. Come to find out that good old American toilet paper has the same dioxins as well. It seems to make sense now that I think about it. If we are using that who knows how many times a day, (for me alot, I drink lots of water") how much are we truly exposed to these harmful substances? Let me say to much in my opinion. I have already flushed the bad stuff out of my life. Your wanting to know what the alternative is, right? Well here goes. You could make your own, wait wait wait a minute, I am totally kidding... I don't make my own, but I have found some available from Green Forrest that is bleach and chemical free, also kind to septic systems. Not only is this better for us to use, but it didn't cost anymore than regular old store bought stuff. Now how can you complain about that. How now, if us mommies aren't aware of these things, then our families go right along being exposed to these bad toxins on a daily basis. It may not seem important, but I think it is in the long run. Not only do I want to safeguard my family from harm, but it really does burn my biscuits to see companies make products that they say are good and safe for our families, and they just are not. All the while taking our families hard earned money. How sad. As long as it is within my ability to provide safe and good things for my treasures, I will. Anyway, I hope this has been useful to someone. Next blog I am going to share about storing your food in plastic, and the stuff that leaches into your food. If you like these kind of topics, let me know. I don't want to bore the Lord's dear ones with my blogs I hope everyone is well. For you local ladies, you can buy the green forrest toilet paper at The Rabbit Food in Sevierville. I am gearing up for some yard sales tomorrow. The season has befun, I mean begun. I am so excited to see what great things I can find this year. It's like a treasure hunt. In Christ Jesus, Geanine

I thought I would post a picture of my treasures. Aren't they sweet. I am so blessed to have them. The Lord has used them to develop and grow me into the person that I am becoming. Just wanted to share how thankful I am to have them. In Christ Jesus, Geanine |

i I am so excited that I have finally figured out how to post pictures. It has taken Maria and Amy to teach me. This is my sweety and me. I love this man so much. He likes it when I brag on him. I love looking at other peoples photos. It gives you a glimpse into who they are. That works especially well blogging when only a small amount of people actually know one another. I hope everyone is having a joy filled day. In Christ Jesus, Geanine |

Here is my sweet friend Amy (poshred1), painting my hallway floor. She made the stencils and came up with the design herself. We absolutely love it. It fits with all the other quirky things we like. I had to brag on her a little bit. How many friends would come to your home, sand your floor, and then paint a very detailed design. She is very talented, and we appreciate her family so much. Thanks again Amy. Love you sister!

My family and I started drinking raw milk about a year ago. It has been wonderful. Our health has be better, and the gunkiness after drinking milk is now no more. We have a dear friend Jen, who has been supplying our famiy as well as several other hsers with raw milk. Her wonderful cow is Flossy. We love you Flossy. My dilema started when I ran out of milk 3 days ago. No one in my family is happy about it by the way. We were going to some friends house last night for dinner, the Carpenters, and poshred1's fabuloso family was there too. I was responsible for potato salad and banana pudding. The potato salad was no problem, but the pudding posed more of an issue. You see, I had no MILK. Eek. So I came up with the brilliant idea to the store. I bought some milk that said it has acidopholus added, so it had to be better right? Wrong! It wasn't that bad in the pudding, it was actually very good. It was masked by the bananas and cane juice crystals. The real problem came this morning when I decided I needed a bit a milk with my toast. I took one swig, and was wondering what I had just put in my mouth. It tasted nothing at all like milk. It was liquidy, but not milky. I was shocked that they could label that stuff milk. It really made me appreciate all that Jen and Flossy do. I know it is not easy . Anyway, I wanted to name this post, Ode To a Cow. Are there any other raw milk drinkers out there. Let me know, I think it would be interesting to see how many like the real stuff. Counting down the days till Wed. Milk Day! In Christ Jesus, Geanine |

I have to blog about my new greenhouse. I am so excited! My wonderfull, most handsome husband ot up Sat. morning and drew tw o different designs. We picked what was going to work best for what we wanted to do. It is great. He worked really hard, and now we have a beautiful greenhouse. I can't wait to get all those seeds started. I am going to try and post pictures tomorrow. It was really not that hard to build. A quite simple design. If anyone is interested, let me know and I will give directions on how to build it.
Have a great evening. In Christ Jesus, Geanine |

Here is the easiest and best mixtures I've found. You can use Brandy or a good quality Vodka. I think that Brandy gives a little more pungent taste, but either one is really good. This is truly a treat, and seeing how very expensive pure vanilla is, it is very economical. I make big bottles full, and just set them aside, so I never run out. It also makes great gifts, and I have sold several bottles to some local stores for $25. These are the big vinegar type bottles. Simple recipe: In a pint jar add 2cups of Brandy or Vodka and 1 vanilla bean split lengthwise or chopped in 4 in sections. Let sit for 6 months. I have used it in four months and it was good. The longer it sits, the better and stronger the taste of vanilla. If you use larger jars, add more beans. Hope you enjoy this as much as I have in my baking. In Christ Jesus, Geanine |

Ok Dear Ones, Here is some info that is worth researching. It's also a response to a question someone asked me. Once again I think we have not been given the whole truth. Today's subject is diapers. Those small absorbent things which make our lives easier. Those treasured convieniencies that we would really hate to have to give up, but please read this, research it, and then see if you still feel the same attachment you once felt. Disposable diapers are made from synthetic fibers, plastics, and other unknown deodorizing chemicals, that are not good for a babies skin. On top of diaper rashes the Consumer Products Safety Commission included these in their list of complaints: chemical burns, noxious chemical and insecticide odors(yes, I said insecticide), reports of babies tearing the diapers apart, and then consuming them, or putting them in other places like noses, etc, diaper coverings melting on babies skin, and staining of the skin. That all sounds pretty bad huh, but that isn't what bothers me the most. Do you remember when we were talking about sanitary pads, and the dioxins that are present in them? Well, guess what? Disposable diapers made from the same bleached white paper, contain 90 parts per trillion dioxins, which can cause cancer, birth defects, liver damage, and immune system suppression. That is definately more than I am willing to play arond with. 90 parts per trillion may not seem like alot, but like I said before, one of the chemicals present in dioxins, has been called the most toxic chemical ever produced. The thought that I put those things on my small babies unaware, trusting that they were safe, makes me mad. My children are all potty trained now, but if I have more I will not be going the route of toxic diapers. I'd rather wrap a sock around them before I would do that, knowing what I do now. What are some safer solutions you may be asking. Well we have old trusty, 100% cotton diapers with natural fiber covers. Yes this is more work, but it is alot less expensive, and it's environmentally friendly too. I would think it would have to be much more comfortable on our little treasures as well. If you do go this direction and wash your diapers at home, I would suggest making your own laundry detergent, because it is much milder on babies skin. Supermarket detergents have been known to cause irritation to their skin as well. Option number 2, you can buy diapers at the health food store. I know one of our stores here locally carries them. I have never picked them up to read about them, but they are made by the same company that makes the natural pads I buy. I'll see if I can get info incase someone wants to look for them online. I hope this doesn't overwhelm anyone. We learn in stages. Take this information and build on what you already know. If you stay open and willing to learn, it's amazing the things you can find out. You don't have to know it all right now, just what the Lord gives you for this day, and the fact that you are reading this, lets me know that you care what is affecting your family, for good and bad. I hope you are challenged and encouraged to check out these things for yourselves. Feel free to ask me any questions. I'll do my very best to answer them. The Lord has been so generous in giving me information like this. I want to give Him all the praise and glory for caring about issues like these. He is Good! In Christ Jesus, Geanine |

Well I finally planted peas today. We were a little bit late, but better late than never. We are doing mainly the Lasagna Gardening, but for the peas and corn we are doing traditional. My friend Amy and I went and got manure from my uncles horse farm. It was great while the Bob Cat was loading it into the truck bed, but shoveling that stuff out was hard. Let me say it again, it was hard. We did 2 truck loads this way. I just knew I was going to be sore, but amaingly I wasn't. You can see pictures on her blog, poshred1. My dh said it was because I have been lifting weights. Isn't he cute. Hope everyone is doing well. I've been researching some more useful info. I will put it on my next blog. Here is a recipe I've been using for over a year now. It works great, smells wonderful, and costs about .01 a load. Wow, and it even is safe for sensitive skin. No toxic chemicals or toxins. The recipe calls for Fels Naptha, I use my own homemade soap. You can use either. You can also use and essential oil that smells good to you. Hope you save lots of money, and enjoy the great smell. It only takes about 10-15 minutes to make about 2 gallons, and you use 1/4 to 1/2. In a large pot add 6c. warm water 1/3 bar Fels Naptha or 1/2 Lye soap ( I use Lavender, or some blend like Lavender and Lime). Melt grated soap over low heat. When melted add: 1/2c wshing soda (not baking soda) this is located in the laundry detergent isle 1/2 borax 12 Mule does just fine As soon as this is blended add to a bucket that has 4c. of warm water. When this is blended well, add 1 gallon plus 6c. cool water. Blend well, then add essential oil of your choice. If you use the Fels Naptha, it will have a mild floral/citrus scent to it. I love homemaking. The possibilities are always limitless. There is constantly somehing new for me to learn, that will bless my family or friends. The more I ask the Lord to help me to save money and protect my family from things that can harm them, the more He givesme new resources that will help us. How blessed we are that our Godis the Living God, and He cares about even the smallest of details. Hope you are having a great day in the Lord.

Ok Maria, here it is.... Hair colors and dyes. First of all, the warning labels should read.. Warning: Contains an ingredient that can penetrate your skin and has been determined to cause cancer in labratory animals. Lets keep in mind, that it is a safe assumption that if it causes and animal problems, it will most likely cause us problems. That has been the basis for doing animal experimentation. Manufactureres are not concerned about your health. They are concerned with the amount of revenue coming into their companies. Now that we have cleared that up, lets move onto the bad news. Did you know that th FDA has no jurisdiction over hair colors or dyes which are mutinagenic and suspected of being carcinogenic to humans. In an article by Consumer Reports magazine, it was stated that there are about 20 different chemicals used in hair colors regularly that are potential cancer causers. Hair colors can also contain coal tar dyes, detergents, hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, and yes lead. A large majority of chemicals used in these dyes penetrate the scalp and enter the bloodstream. These are not even tested for safety. Would you believe this, one study that was done stated that women over the age of 50 who have used hair dyes for ten or more years, have increased their risk for breast cancer. How awful. It is also a reccomendation that women who are pregnant or during the child bearing age, avoid theses dyes. Because of a 1938 law that is still in effect, which was passed because the people in the hair industry persuaded Congress to exempt these products from government regulations. It was known to cause problems even then, but because it would have caused basically a shut down of this market, the hair dye manufactureres lobbied until they won the victory to stay in business, and cause who knows what unknown problems for countless individuals. What is an alternative? Henna is a powder made from a plant. There are many different shades available. I know our local health food stores carry these, or can order them, or you can go online and search natural hair colors. Be sure to use they contain no metals. Just because it says natural, doesn't mean it is safe. I read in on book that you can use paprika, beet juice, or Red Zinger tea to bring out red. For brown use ginger, nutmeg, or hot coffee instead of water. You can use black tea, chamomile, or onion juice for gold highlights. There are non toxic alternatives available on the internet. For natural blond highlights you can 1.Mix 1T of lemon juice with 1 gallon of warm water. Put this on your hair and go out into the sun. For brown or brunette: Rinse with strong black tea or black coffee. For natural red: Make a strong tea of rose hips, cloves, or strong black tea. To cover Gray: Simmer 1/2 cup of dried sage in 2 cups of water for 30 minutes, then steep for several hours. Apply the tea to the hair and leave it until your hair dries, then rinse and dry your hair again. You can apply weekly until you get to the color you desire. I hope this info might be helpful. Some of the info I have put in here, has came from a book called Home Safe Home, by Debra Lynn Dadd. It is a great book, and I highly reccomend getting a copy. It is important to not live in fear, but to live wisely. To not just accept something as good because it is sold at the local grocery store, or has been around for years. Thanks for reading. In Christ Jesus, Geanine |

Ok girls, here is the low down on sanitary products. The main concern with pads and tampons is a chemical that is in the bleached paper that both are made from. The chemicals are dioxins. There have been studies reguarding these chemicals, one in Great Britain that reported 139parts per trillion (ppt) dioxins remaining in tampons, and 400ppt in pads. This sounds like a trivial amounts I know, but one of the dioxins that is present is called tetrachlorodibenzodioxin (TCDD). This one had been called the most toxic chemical ever produced. This bad boy is a known carcinogen (known to cause cancer), responsible for birth defects, liver damage, supression of the immune system, and sterility. This chemical can be absorbed very easily through your skin. Can you imagine using something like this on open membranes month after month for years. I can't even believe this is allowed to be marketed to us, the unaware public. Actually, I can believe it. There is so much that is being marketed to the public that is really harmful to their health, all for the all powerful dollar. Sickening isn't it. It really frustrates me at the mentality of the FDA. Some healthy solutions: 1. Make your own pads. I know this sounds ridiculous, but sanitary products haven't been around and easily accesible that long. People had to do something the thousands of years before mass marketing of femine hygene products. I have found several websites that tell you how to do this. I haven't tried this yet, but knowing how isn't a bad thing in case of an emergency. 2. Buy dioxin, bleach free disposable pads made from 100% cotton. Not only are these more comfortable, but the prices I have found are actually cheaper than Always. Also choose tampons that are made without super absorbant fibers which may increase the growth of staphylococcus bacteria. Studies show that all cotton fiber reduces the chances of this happening. You also want tampons that have not been bleached. It will state this on the packaging. Ok ladies, what do you think about these apples? Looks like we've been duped into biting into some bad apples if you ask me. I am so thankful the Lord shows us dangers unaware. I hope some of you find this helpful. Let me know what you think. I know we can't worry about every little thing, but some things I do find very important. I want to take care of this temple the Lord has given to me to dwell in. I don't want to add any sickness that might be avoided, so please indulge me as I share my my findings. I pray your families are well, and that the joy of the LORD is your strength. In the Holy name of Jesus, Geanine |

I love learning, don't you? I love having truth, and not being decieved. I find the more I ask for God's truth, and for His will to be worked out in my life, the more content I am at letting Him take the lead. One of the paths He has let me travel has been on health and nutrition. This has been a path I have been on for 13 years, and I still have barely skimmed the surface. I don't want to do things the worlds way. I want to be different. (Not weird huh Amy. Pat would be so proud) One of the things I have been researching this week is fluoride. I've known for a long time that fluoride is toxic, so when my children go to the dentist, we skip the fluoride treatment. (Against the dr.s wishes of coarse), but there is a reason why, not rebellion. Did you know that toothpaste can. have amonia, artificial colors or flavors, ethanol, formaldehyde, mineral oil, and polyvinylpyrrolidone plastic (PVP), that is the same plastic resin in hairspray, an by the way is carcinogenic. Well wishers give fluoride to children as a precautionary protection against tooth decay. This may help harden their teeth, but what else will itdo? On April 1997, the FDA require a warning label to be listend on all toothpaste or dental care containing fluoride. It reads ughum.. clearing my throat, WARNING: Keep out of reach of children under 6 years of age. If you accidentally swallow more toothpaste than used for brushing, seek professional help, or contact a poison control center immediately. Did you guys hear this? Immediately. This isn't saying if your child eats a whole tube, or ingests this stuff over a period of time, it is a one time thing. I read that even 1 Tablespoon in a small child could cause death. Did you know the second most common water pollutant is fluoride? Most fluoride used today to fluorodate water (on purpose mind you), is the hazardous waste material fluorosilicic acid. This acid is a by-product of metal industries and phosphate fertilizer manufacturers. Toothpastes also contain saccharin, which is know to cause cancer in labratory animals. Chewing gum and food products containing saccharin require a warning label stating it's connection to cancer in animals, but toothpaste doesn't, go figure. Anyway, I thought I would give you some natural solutions. Nowadays you can find nonfluoridated toothpaste at health food stores. I found a Toms of Maine at our local Wal-Mart. You can also try baking soda with a few drops of an essential oil or flavored extract.I read in a great book that you can mash strawberries. They supposedly foam like toothpaste and contain an ingredient that helps people with gum disease. You can also mix baking soda, glycerin, and cinnmon powder to get the job done. I hope this wasn't to borning. We'll see if this gets any response. If it does I'll share some more info. In Christ Jesus, Geanine |

I have has such a busy week. Starting with the day before Valentines Day. My dh and I went out to eat at a very romantic resturant. It was so nice to just have a moment to think, and talk, and eat without having a million things needing to get done. After that was my dd birthday on V-day. She is such a special joy. I was blessed to have her. She is such a big helper at home. She will make a wonderful mom and wife someday. Her actual b-day we celebrated on Thurs. with all of our family. Busy busy day baking and cooking for everyone. Then last Saturday we had a V-day/b/day tea party. It was so much fun. Several little girls came with their moms. They were adorable. We had sevral feathery boas. As soon as I can figure out how to post the pictures again, I will show off how cute everyone was. I had a very patient friend teach me how to do it, thanks Maria, but I obviously didn't get it. I do that quite often. I also had a very sweet and talented friend come and paint my hallway floor. It is absolutely georeous. I was at her house for dinner, and she had painted the top of her new table. I couldn't believe she did it. It was stunning really. After seening how incredible her table looked, I started visualizing the design on my wood floor. She came and spent many hours over 2 days working very hard on my home. We still have a little left to do, but I am so pleased with how quirky it looks. We had alot of fun while she and her 4 children were here. I feel very blessed at the thought of having such a dear friend. I will once again have to post a picture of this when I figure it out. Thanks so much Amy. I love it! Check out her blog poshred1. Anyway, that is a very small bit of what has been going on lately at my house. I also have some serious thoughts of food, I am astounished at the amount of food poisoning going around. It makes me never want to eat out again. I am a big supporter of organics and making things from scratch at home, but this really motovates me. I am so happy making things that are good for my family. I made homemade tortillas today. They were so yummy. I had tried the bread beckers recipe, but mine turned out way to dry, so I added extra liquid lechithin, and less ww flour. They were the best I've made yet. Very soft and pliable. I like the ones that don't crack and break. I also tried the recipe that Poshred has on her blog, the Best cream cheese on.... Wowsers it is so yummy. Who would ever think that soaked sunflower seeds could be so good. Check it out, tasty, healthy, and frugal. It doesn't get much better than that. I hope everyone is finding joy in the Lord today. He is so good. In Christ, Geanine |

Yesterday was our monthly moms night out for our homeschool support group, we have a wonderful group by the way, and I was trying to decide what what dishes I would whip up to take with me. I searched through many ccokbooks and decided to make a dessert called "Crowd Pleaser". WOW It was so delicious. I have to give you the recipe. It was out of a great cookbook called Heart &Soul from the Among Friends cookbook series. Anyway, here it is..... Crowd Pleaser 1.Crush 25 oreos (I used the organic ones that I had on hand, it was healthier you know 2.Add 1/4 cup of melted butter 3.Press into a 9x13 pan 4.Slice 1/2 gallon of Vanilla ice cream (I used Breyer' Creamy Vanilla) yum and lay on top of crust. 5.Cover with chopped pecans 6.Put in Freezer 7.Combine the following in a saucepan: 4oz. semi-sweet chocolate (I used chocolate chips), 2/3c. evaporated milk, 1/2 t. salt, 2/3c.sugar (I used organic cane juice crystals), and 1/2 c. butter 8.Boil 4 minutes stirring constantly, add 1t. vanilla 9.Pour sauce over mixture in the 9x13 pan 10.Cover with non-dairy whipped topping, Freeze and Enjoy That's it. Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. I feel very blessed. I just recently stenciled in my living room "Home is where your story begins". I love it. I've pondered it many times, Our homes should be a place of memories, of familiar smells, and laughter. My childrens story began in the halls of our home. I've been wondering if their story is one that will bring honor to the Lord Jesus Christ, Have I portrayed what my hearts desire for them has been. Have I shown them God's patience, His love, His grace and concern. What have I portrayed most? I hope it is those things I hold dearest to my heart, my faith, and trust in God's word, my continual gratitude for being allowed to stay home to raise my family, and make something beautiful here. Oh how he has changed me by being in my home, my famiies sanctuary. I remember when I had my first son 13 years ago. I knew I didn't want to leave him with anyone. I wanted to be home, but there was some amount of resentment as well. Not toward anyone in particular, but being home and feeling like I was missing out on something. My husband was leaving for the day at work, meeting new people. It all seemed so grand. I was determined to do it God's way. I knew what He was asking of me, and I wanted to be obedient. So I decided to trust Him. Now these many years later I can look back and realize I am reaping a harvest of joy and peace, even in the midst of bad days, I am so blessed. Had I chosen to do things a different way, I am concerned I would just be another discontent lonely lady. I would be lonely for my children, and lonely for my home. I would not have the vision that motivates me in my daily activities in my home. God's ways truly are above are own. Home is where my families story begins, and each day I add to the stories pages knowing that the Lord is with me, and that He always finishes what He starts. In Christ Jesus, Geanine |

Hello again. I am finally back on again. After my frst entry, life got busy, and I lost my blog name. Thanks to someone who use to have an ugly purse, I was able to have my memory jogged. Thank you Maria. Well I am trying to figure out how to download some pictures so I can share my wonderful family with you. I want to start with my very handsome, smart, funny, and did I mention handsome husband. He is the love of my heart and the twinkle in my eye. Hopefully, if I have downloaded correctly, there will be a picture of him here. If not, I'll try again. I'm not real computer savvy you know. Also to share a thought I was pondering on. I love God's word and how it lights dark places. It's the first thing I think of in elated joy, and in heart gripping sadness as well. The Scripture in Phillipians 4:4 - 7 has been such a comfort to me in my christian walk. Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus. I love that as God's child he makes provision for me. I am His responsibility. He wants to equip me to accomplish His will. He wants me to present things to Him in prayer, because He is concerned with what concerns me, but He doesn't want me to be anxious or full of worry. As women we tend to want to pick life's issues up, and try to fix or control the situation. I have found that when I am in control (only in my own mind), that the outcome of the situation is never the way I would like it to be, but, if I am being obedient with prayer and supplication, presenting my request to Him, peace always follows reguardless of the outcome. In verse 8 He goes ahead and tells us what our minds should be thinking on. Anyway, just wanted to share a thought with you. I hope you all are full of joy and thanksgiving. When I blog next time I am gong to be sharing a recipe for Orange Walnut Biscotti. Yum We had it today at a tea party at our home. I love eating fru fru girl food. Christ Be Honored, Geanine |
