It is the Merry Month of May and here at the Jimenez Home and School, we welcome many things. It is one of our busiest months of the year this year. In May we honor Mary, the Mother of God-she who was the first to say "YES" to God's plan of salvation. We look to her as an example of obedience, humility, patience, charity and faithfulness. While we mere earthly mothers get a "day", the Mother of our Lord and Savior gets an entire month-how awesome and blessed are we to have such a perfect example to follow in our relationship with Jesus in the form of His Blessed Mother.....
In May we also have baseball games, soccer games, band concerts, drivers ed for the 17 year old (finally!), First Holy Communion ( for the 7 year old), a wedding to attend to, and a graduation to prepare for (the 17 year old). There is still school to attend to, tests to take, curriculum to be researched out and planned for the next year and field trips to finish up. Life moves fast-you have to be brave, have faith and make a great lunge for it as it passes you by.
In May we honor all Mothers. Being a Mother is hard. Being a good Mother is VERY hard work. But we as Mothers are blessed to be given the graces from God to do that work. I just read a disturbing article about how Mothers should stay in the workforce. The author was concerned that Mothers were taking a huge financial risk to be "at home". What financial risk is that? Oh, an earthly one. As a Mother, I'm investing in my eternal future....and that of my children. The only risk I can see in that would be for me to drop the ball into other people's laps (daycare, public school). That is a risk I'm not willing to take. The author was also concerned that we "at home" moms were doing ourselves a disservice and not fulfilling our self worth. Apparently the author has no clue about the role of wife and mother-at least in the religious/spiritual sense. It is ONLY as a wife and/or Mother that I am truly fulfilling the female role. Only women can in any sense have a claim to co-creator with God through the role of Motherhood. Can you believe how fulfilling that is!
Being a Mother is NOT easy. I have born 5 beautiful blessings into this earthly world. I have seen my first child and only daughter soar out into the world. Yes it was hard but I know as a Mother I have done everything in my power to get her ready for that adventure. It is comforting to know that my 19 year old daughter, while now half a world away, is capable, competent, stable and faithul. I trust her. Now, her 17 year old brother-my first son-follows behind her. Letting go seems to be easier if you know in your heart of hearts you have done right by these kids. Hopefully I am more prepared and learned and wise and spirit-filled as a Mother as I also carry on the task of my younger 3 kids. I LOVE being a wife and Mother! Sometimes I feel that women who go into the workforce (without justified cause) are not running TO something but running FROM something. They are afraid. I pray for them. They are not fulfilled. And to those Moms who HAVE to work-not to fill "f be fulfilled or justified", but to support their families or raise kids on their own-I have nothing but love, respect and admiration for you! You will be doubly blessed in Heaven-there your reward will be great indeed.
I LOVE being a wife and mother!
