Ok I promised some notes about All Hallows Eve which happens to be tomorrow today. Our family does celebrate this night as the eve of All Saints Day
. I'm not going to go into a long discertation on the subject (I'm just too exhausted tonight after overseeing the carving of two beautiful pumpkins) so if you are interested in the subject I want you to just zip on over to www.catholicculture.org and read up on it (if the link doesn't work just go to the posted website and you'll find it soon enough...). Don't forget to check out the links at the bottom of that article-they're GREAT! We celebrate our faith all year long (it is called a liturgical year) and this is one of the feasts. Enough said, we enjoy it!
I've also enjoyed the whole cute little story about how we're the pumpkins and how God cleans all the nasty stuff out of us and sets his light in us to shine in the dark of night for all to see. Yep, we talk about that one, too.
Our local radio station had another good twist on this feast. We're all about bringing the Good News to others......well get this....this is the one night of the year when LOTS of people come straight to our front doors! What a powerful witness we can be to them! Yep, that's a good thing.
How about being a light in the darkness for your neighbors? Is our doorway cold and dark? No room at the Inn? Or is our light shining brightly, beckoning all to come and be welcomed?
And it's harvest time! Love those pumpkins and gourds! Ok look, we live in Texas....we only get 2 seasons here....hot and hotter. No leaves giving a beautiful show of brilliant Fall color here....nope, no siree....nada. Ok, wait....my yard turns a different shade of brown, does that count? Nope? Oh well, so we're back to pumpkins. Pumpkins are orange, squash and gourds come in a brilliant show of Fall color. THAT my dear friends is Fall here! No "frost on the pumpkin" here either. Our cold fronts come in one size.....high of 70 and low of 50-thats chili and hot cocoa weather here. It's not at all strange to see the temperature hit 69 and find people out in winter parkas, scarves and gloves. I. Kid. You. Not.
Ok as I was saying, I was overseeing the pumpkin carving. Dear hubby is working so hard out in Phoenix
. So I got the job. The Boy helped. Sort of. With lots of sharp pointy utensils, and a dog and 2 year old under foot we opened those babies up. Oh the gasps of joy and glee at the sight of all those pumpkin guts and seeds!!!!! Ok, not really joy and glee. Cameron was NOT too thrilled but he stuck his hand right on in. The Boy did the same. They worked and worked. Finally the pumpkins were carved. MY job was to deal with the seeds. You can't have Halloween with out fresh roasted pumpkin seeds. Well I am too tired to mess with it tonight. So into a bag and the fridge they go. Now I'll just have to reset my brain to remember they are in there...........
Alrighty then. The littlest pumpkin of them all is finally snuggled up in bed waiting on me to help with his prayers. We have a dentist visit in the morning (opps, did I schedule that for Cameron
on Halloween? what was I thinking....hehehe). Hubby comes home tomorrow night YEA!!!
Sleep well my friends, sleep well.
