Ok. Today we jump back into routines...YEA!
Last night I stayed up late to clean kitchen countertops, take inventory of what we have in the pantry/fridge that's still edible (haven't been home to shop for groceries), look through the bible for some passages that a friend asked about, and lined up lessons for today.
Today we're back in full force. It's 6:30am and I'm savoring these few minutes of hot coffee and quiet computer time before the younger crew get up. The older guys are already up and moving.
I am satisfied with everything we have on our plate today except I'm a little concerned about history. We use the Beautiful Feet Press Early American History (primary) and this publisher seems to be spending an inordinate amount of time on the Pilgrims. We rushed through Lief Erikson and Columbus and Pocohantas and we've been dawdling in Pilgrims since October/November with (it seems) more months to go.......I will be re-evaluating this curriculum this week. DS will definitely become bored with this and I certainly don't want that!
Also today the oldest DS will be out looking for a job. The sudden turn of events making it necessary for him to be home have been trying on us all. He is dealing with many emotions and trying to find his "place" here as an adult. He's finding the "adult" job hunting world is NOT easy and the teenage "hide in your room and play on the computer or read books" world too tempting. Fighting temptation is never easy-whether you are 8 or 80!
Hubby is back to work today. I'm sure he's happy about that-he has spent the better part of 2 weeks behind the wheel of a suburban with a wife and 4 kids driving him nuts. He even rode the bus in (so DS1 could go job hunting).
DS2 starts back to school today. Feels like he's been home forever. He is our social butterfly so with him home there was a constant stream of teenage boys here constantly hungry and needing constant entertainment. I don't mind but I'm ready for some uninterrupted quiet school/kiddo time.
Let the schooling begin!
