Alex got sent off to school-feeling yucky but no fever. Cameron woke up with 101.6 and a cough (but energy level normal). Isaac is just having fun being Isaac. Zach woke up and stayed in bed till the very last minute then wondered why he was 10 minutes late for work (we have to drive through 2 school zones and 2 major intersections..... during rush hour traffic).
Got home from taking Zach to work. Got the two little ones settled and sat down to drink some coffee. 9:30am-the phone rings it's Alex who left for school at 7am and hasn't made it there yet! His friend's car broke down. They got it fixed enough to limp to the mechanic. They got about halfway and then had to push the car the rest of the way. DOWN WESTHEIMER DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC!!! These boys are NUTS. I loaded everyone back up and raced to pick them up and then take them both to their separate schools (30 minute drive minimum!). They were tired and hungry but I was in NO mood to treat them to breakfast when they were going to have lunch at school shortly!
Got home from taking them to school. Got everyone settled with a small snack while I gulped my now cold coffee. Loaded everyone BACK up to go pick Zach up from work at noon. Put gas in the car (we have a suburban...44 gallon tank...fillups are quite painful but necessary as you can tell...). Got home and got everyone settled AGAIN. Made lunch. Looked at the clock and realized that just after I was going to get everyone down for naps it would be time to load them back up to pick up the other two boys. About that time my hubby IM's me to let me know the 15 year old has texted him FROM SCHOOL to say he's piping mad and about to ditch his band class. Xavier and I had a LONG discussion about what to do about this-options are small. Finally I convince him to do pick up so I can get boys to nap.
We got up a while later. My son and husband talked to the counselor. My music driven son is now out of band and taking P.E. At this point anything to keep him going in school. He seems happy with the choice and he better be-it is the only one he gets! He has said he'll keep his music going by jamming with his good friends.......I'm holding him to that!!!
Meanwhile, Cameron's fever has risen to 103.8 (but he insists he's feeling fine..cough cough cough). Did I mention tomorrow is Museum Day with a Space Mission? Oh yeah he's not going! I've stayed home from my meeting so I can keep an eye on him and get him back to bed early.
I did get him to do a little math and spelling today so it was not a total loss.....
Does anyone else ever have days like this?
I thank God that at least they aren't seriously ill and that the two high schoolers didn't get flattened on the major road and that the 18 year old has ajob at our church where he will be under the watchful eye of Christ. I thank God that my dear husband has a job that will let him leave when his family needs him with no reprocussions and I thank God that He has given us the wisdom and understanding to be the kind of parents we need to be to raise Godly children. That is no small task. I thank God that no matter what our schedules are, we have been able to sit down to a family dinner and prayer every evening this week. Even when the days are hard, we can still be thankful at the end of the day.
