Yesterday the 15 year old had surgery on his knee. He survived. We have been blessed so many times when going into surgery, to have fellow parishoners "show up" to be right there-our own angels! When my husband had lithotripsy and a liver biopsy, parishoners were right there to see us through from the medical side. Yesterday was the same. We're sitting in the lobby of the Day Surgery unit when Erika Helms comes waltzing in with her happy go lucky -lets take this by the horns and shake it up a little-bright cheery face (did I mention it was o'dark thirty). She went through RCIA last year and we know her and her family very well. She asked what time his surgery was and lo and behold she was there for the whole thing....even was the nurse that brought him back to recovery and got us from waiting. I know she was praying the entire time! How blessed is that?!
Dr. Likover said the tear was "impressive" and coming from a Dr who specializes in sports injuries that made me nervous but he showed us before and after pictures (wow) and said everything should be just fine. And it was. Alex was feeling well enough-and hungry enough to stop at Whataburger for food on the way home. He came home and slept and then woke up and said he felt like going to youth group. We didn't get home until 10:30pm (had to eat something).
He felt well enough to go to school today and is happy the surgery is finally over and done with-he misses participating in sports very much! So while the sudden availability of the surgery was a surprise, we know it is all God's plan-now Alex will have all of Spring Break to heal and the Dr. said he should be good as new in about 3 weeks or so.......maybe even get to play the last half of the baseball season! Can't beat that with a stick!
