Alex's knee surgery went very well. So well in fact,I think my husband will join him. My dear husband-who's always had bad knees-decided that soccer "practice" would involve scrimmaging 8 year old boys. The 8 year old boys whipped their dads soundly and my dear, dear husband's knee is now shot. He is always the one telling us "if you're hurt go see the doctor-that's what we pay an arm and leg for insurance for" so today I made him promise to make an appointment to see Alex's doctor when he takes him back for a followup. I'm thinking he won't make it till Friday.....he had just picked up Alex from his retreat and was already confiscating Alex's knee brace for his own leg.....
This is one of those wild weekends where no one is allowed to sit still for more than 15 minutes at a time. One event was cancelled so we were going to head to another event and run errands when the 8 year old decides to pull the old "my stomach hurts" at dinner. We narrowed it down to constipation but had to come home "just in case". We left the restaraunt with a "to go" container to use in case of body fluid expulsion (throwing up)..... He'll live. Of course that meant today we had twice as many errands to run.....
Also, we have a motion sensor light switch in the guest bathroom-works great as a nightlight and turns itself off after a few minutes. We have to tell guests-if you are in the bathroom too long and the light goes off just wave like a madman/woman for the light to reactivate. Not a problem. What IS the problem, at least in my humble opinion, is that the darn thing turns off and on when no one is in the room. Ok, THAT is freaky.
Funny thing heard yesterday at the RCIA retreat I attended.....in the liturgical year, we are reading through the Gospel of John. At this Day of Reflection, we normally show the Passion of the Christ but this year someone suggested the movie The Gospel of John. Ok....good call. At the team meeting, several of us made mention that the movie would tie in to the Sunday Gospel Readings but a senior team member made known his doubts about that. He said he just didn't think the people were reading their bibles like they were supposed to. So yesterday they were showing the movie in 2 parts with some old testament readings intersperced throughout. After the first half of the movie there was time for reflection and discussion. This same senior team member asked the group how they liked the movie so far..... and from the crowd came a voice....."it was ok but I liked the book better"...........and silently in my heart I praised God and thanked him for using this person's faithfulness to teach us all some humility and trust.
Have a restful and blessed Sunday
