My dear friend over at FabFive just got slammed on her own blog! How sad is that? One rule that I personally adhere to (as do most bloggers I know-ESP. homeschooling ones!) is that other people's religion is NOT up for discussion or slamming. EVER. We are ALL on our own journeys. My dear friend has never said a bad or controversial thing on her blog-she was slammed just because of her religion....by someone who touted herself as a better Christian. How shameful!
I feel I need to talk a little about this. You see, I am the daughter of a Southern Baptist minister. My father was a great minister and very pro-life before it was even "cool". On the other hand, I always had questions that even my dad.....who had a Masters in Theology and a Doctorate in Divinity couldn't answer well. After my marriage to a WONDERFUL man who happens to be Catholic, I felt that God was calling me to the Catholic Church. I took classes to find out about the church, did my own research-independent of any other "church's" beliefs and heard God's calling me home to the Catholic Church.......WITH my father's and grandmother's (VERY STAUNCH BAPTIST) blessings I might add. I happen to be one of those blessed (imho) people who are graced with the best of both worlds......the solid scripture from my Baptist roots and the 2000 +year old Tradition and Teachings of the Catholic Church which can trace it's history back to Peter. (and don't tell me traditions aren't important-every single family I've EVER come across has their own "traditions"). My church isn't perfect and I'm willing to bet no one else's is either.
I don't go onto other people's blogs and tell them how they should be homeschooling and I certainly don't go onto other people's blogs and tell them how they should worship God. I expect the same respect for me and my blog. If you have genuine questions about something, either homeschooling or religion, please go ahead and ask. I will answer them as best I can-I am not perfect nor am I the holder of all knowledge.....although my children might tell you I actively persue them both.....
I specifically chose HomeschoolBlogger.com as my blogging home because I felt surrounded by likeminded, Christian, Homeschooling people! I happen to view things like MySpace and Facebook as VERY questionable environments for anyone to be walking through. How sad indeed if this wonderful space called HomeschoolBlogger joined the ranks of those other questionable places.....
I guess my family had it right when they chose our theme for this year. I know I will be lifiting up this person who left the questionable comment on my friend's blog. It sounds like she needs to be surrounded in prayer, peace and love.....and fortunately, those are some things I would be glad to send her way--heck, we ALL need those things these days.......
I choose to show my "Christianity" in all I do and say. Saint Francis is often quoted as saying...."Preach the Gospel to all peoples......use words if necessary."
No More Hate in 2008.......can I get an AMEN on that, brothers and sisters?
