When Did Doctors Stop Being Doctors?

I can not believe how hard it has been to find anyone....doctor, nurse, nurse practitioner......to repack Zachary's wound!  We have spent the last two days searching for someone in the medical field that would do it!!!!!!!  The ER doctors said it was a pretty bad and deep wound (you could put your entire fist into it!) and would need some professional attention daily for the next week.  I took him to the neighborhood clinic on Monday where I was able to get a nurse practitioner to do it.  His original intention was to teach me to do it but after he saw the extent of the wound, he, too, agreed that it needed professional attention for several more days.  Unfortunately he seems to be the only at that practice that was a) willing and b) able to do the procedure. Most doctors were worried about how to "bill" the insurance company. Xavier came home early from his trip and to him fell the task of trying to get someone to do the procedure yesterday.  Everyone we called said they didn't do it.  He even tried contacting the Nurse Helpline with our insurance company.  The nurse there said we should be doing it ourselves.  We didn't have the stuff to do it.  So we bit the bullet and took Zach back to the ER where we originally had this taken care of.  They were so nice and accomondating.  They were stunned that we had been given such a run around by the medical profession!  They taught us how to do the procedure since the wound is healing nicely-but told us if we had any problems to bring him right back.  They sent us home with everything we needed to do the procedure and even gave Zach the ok to resume showering (for which we were all exceedingly grateful!).

I would like to take this time to thank Dr.s Buck and Kirby from the 24 Hour Emergency Room (and every single one of their compassionate and efficient staff for acting like true doctors.....true professionals!  We had last been there at Christmas when Cameron needed stitches late one night.  The staff here REMEMBERED us from that one visit almost 6 months ago!!! If you are EVER in the Houston area and need quick medical treatment at any hour of the day or night...any day of the week......PLEASE go there!

P.S. Their nurses also give great advice on the local cuisine......I was adventurous yesterday and tried the AVOCADO MILKSHAKE at a local Vietnamese Noodle House and it was AWESOME!
