Surgical Procedures and Summer Colds

Well, today I played Nurse Nightingale and repacked Zachary's wound.  It is still pretty bad but is finally healing.  His spirits were really up because he got to take a shower (we're all smiling, too!).  He doesn't like me talking during the procedure.  Not sure why.  It went well and I'm really nervous doing it.  I have to do it again tomorrow but on Friday and Saturday maybe I'll get dad to do it.  There's just something "odd" about packing 2 feet of gauze or more into your son's left backside!  The fact that they can't stitch it closed is just freaking me out a little, too!  We're glad the meds have been working and the fever has not come back.  I hate to think what would have happened if we had waited even 24 hours more to take him in!!!

Zach was feeling well enough to make the drive to the seminary for his interview with the Vocations Director.  The interview was about 45 minutes long and Fr. Dat is a very nice young man.  He reiterated what everyone else tells us....Zach is still very young and the discernment process will take a long time.  They are hoping to have a House of Discernment in place by the fall .....sort of like a minor seminary, where Zach can live with other discerners, while still working a regular job and taking a few seminary classes.  He and I were both a little disappointed that there was nothing definite set yet but we both completely understand the process.  The vocation of priesthood is like marriage.....for life and just like a couple should date for a long time (court), Zachary and the office of vocations will need a long time to discern if this is truly God's calling for him.

Cameron has an Art Gallery this weekend and I've been having a heck of a time finding his art portfolio from this year.  I knew I put it somewhere "safe" so we wouldn't lose anything.....haha!  Finally found it this evening.  Tomorrow Cameron will work on his Artist Project and start getting his artwork ready to take to Christine's Art House.  With the way things have gone this week, it won't be perfect, but it will get done!

On top of this "exciting" week, I've been fighting what I thought was allergies.  I've been frustrated that the Zyrtec that is always so helpful with the rest of my family's allergies isn't doing a thing for me.  I'm starting to think it's more of a summer cold.  I'm miserable.  Being under so much stress this week hasn't helped my immune system, either, I'm sure.

As for schoolwork, Cameron has finished everything but Sign Language, Latin and Math.  Sign Language class will go through June.  We stopped Latin in January and we'll pick it back up this summer so we can concentrate on it more.  Cameron is excited about his new history curriculum (Story of the World Vol.1) so we'll probably start that in the summer as well.  In anticipation of our Zoology 2 class, we'll also be setting up a small aquarium this summer.  Depending on the weather, we might start some schoolwork in the summer as well.  The temps here are already 95 degrees during the day and they wll stay like that or even get higher (with humidity making it much worse). That way in the winter when it is nice out, we can play more!

I have a lot of work to do, getting curriculum for 2 kids together this summer.  I am going to try to be more organized and better prepared this coming school year.  I have also promised the boys to find more "fun" stuff to do.  Xavier has promised to sit with Cameron in the evening to just go over the math we did during the day.  We did a trial run this week and Cameron took to it pretty well.  I was very proud of Xavier for not getting too frustrated with him!

Get lots of rest and drink many fluids. I have a coworker who is out with the flu and it began much as you describe. She had high fever today and lungs filling with fluid. Once it set it, it progressed fast and the doc said STRESS was likely her trigger! Take care of Nurse Nightingale, dear friend....
