Today in Swiss Family Robinson, we read about how butter was very important. It was used to moisten and flavor dry biscuits and was also used as an ointment on the dogs to help their wounds heal after they fought the jackals. So today, we'll be making some butter, of course!
We will also be beating the hot Houston summer heat (projected high of 97 again) by going to the dollar movies to see Horton Hears a Who or Nim's Island. Cameron has already seen Horton and wants to see Nim, but I think Isaac will sit and enjoy Horton, better.
Depending on how the boys behave, we might also make a trip to a local consignment shop to look for some things we need for the boys school next year.
Today we are also continuing on our adventure of decluttering of Cameron's room. So far, we have several piles of clothes made:
*small enough for Isaac -will be moved over to the other dresser
*too small for Cameron-way too big for Isaac-give away pile
*big brothers clothes that are vacationing in Cameron's drawer-straight to the laundry bin
*winter clothes that Cameron still wears at least weekly (no body fat-always cold!)-bottom drawer
*clothes that belong to other people but somehow made it to Cameron's dresser-to appropriate owners
...of course clothes that fit go back neatly in the dresser or to the laundry bin
I will also have to go through Zachary's stuff and Isaac's toys at some point (baby steps, Tammy!)
We are leaving this weekend to go do some preliminary paperwork at the college Zach wants to attend. This will be a surprise for Cameron-he doesn't know we're going yet. Zach got hold of Alex who's away on some inner-city mission work and told him and now he's a little (understatement) upset that he will miss this trip since he'll be away on a trip to Stuebenville for a weekend of Praise and Worship. Aren't brothers grand!
Summer Fun!
***Evening Update!
Had lunch at McDonalds' and went to see Horton Hears A Who. Excellent movie-we will be adding it to our collection! Isaac did very well-only 2 bathroom visits. The rest of the time he ate popcorn and sat, chin on hand, watching intently. He talked about the "elephant" all afternoon. Then we made it to Crayons-a resale shop where we found all sorts of goodies: several books on Isaac's curriculum list, several big floor puzzles-one of them foam, a huge bag of wooden trains and tracks to replace what Leo ate as a puppy, Moon shoes for Cameron and several outfits for Madeline. The boys kind of freaked when they saw the "girly" stuff in the basket!
Came home where Cameron took a nap with his new Dora Tells Time book..... woke up and we all had big soft pretzels. Cameron and Isaac went out to jump on the trampoline but the thunder and rain soon had them scurrying in. Making butter will wait till tomorrow-don't have any cream and we won't be venturing out in the wonderful rain!
Thank you God for the rain! We really really need it!
