Well it was a rip-roaring game! The other team was only about twice the size of our players but our guys stood their ground-or tried to anyway! Alex took several hard hits. The first one left him on the ground for several minutes while personnel from both teams worked with him. As a mother my heart was in my throat! He got up FINALLY-he had gotten hit right in the chest and rattled his insides. He had to sit out a couple of plays and by that time he was MAD. When he went back in it was to make a stand. They seemed to have it out for him. By the third quarter (at 10pm!!!!) we were losing pretty badly. Several of our players had been hurt. Alex took another big hit and this one was to his arm. The team doctor said it was a suspected elbow fracture. This school didn't have an ambulance available on site so we had to drive him from League City to Sugar Land-about a 45 minute drive-with alex in full gear in the front seat using his other arm as a splint. On the way there the younger two boys fell asleep in the car so once we got to the ER I stayed in car with them. We enjoy this ER. They know us there! We had Dr. Buck and the Avocado Milk Shake Guy-they fixed Alex up right quick and in a hurry-about 30 minutes from check in to back in the car and I'm willing to bet most of that time was trying to get his uniform and pads off without messing with his arm! Then we had to feed the boy. We skipped filling his pain meds and got him some food. We got home around midnight by which time Isaac was up and my dear daughter called so by the time we got to bed it was 1am!
Oh, did I mention Alex is supposed to serve in a HUGE wedding today?
And there's also the fact he's supposed to play with his band at our church festival NEXT weekend?
Yeah right
