I read Peter's First Easter by Walter Wangerin Jr. to the kids. What a great book. It gives alot of description about what happened to Jesus, and how He was feeling the night before he died. And it talks about how Peter was so ashamed for denying Jesus, but Jesus forgave him. Here is an exerpt :
Jesus has forgiven me. Three times I hurt him, and he took the hurt, and he went down to death with it. When he rose from the dead, the hurt was gone. And when I was so sorry for what I did, he came back and loved me three times back again-and now I have so much of this love that I can love you just like Jesus! Forgiveness! We are both forgiven!
The kids were just watching "The Beginners Bible, The Story of Easter". That is such fru-fru. It is so happy-go-lucky. I know it is for kids and they don't want to be all gory, but it just doesn't relay the true story. Peter's First Easter is gentle enough for kids, but is more meaningful, like the movie, The Passion. My oldest D was really moved by it. He is very sensitive. He cries when we talk about Jesus dying. My 4 yo, N, had alot of questions. He wanted to know why there was blood on Jesus. The book shows a small trickle of blood coming out of were the spikes went in his wrists. I definitly recomend reading this to your children.
I also bought Resurrection Morning by Max Lucado. I havn't read it yet, will probably later today.
Happy Easter!
