Baby Cardinals and Other Unrelated Things

Posted in Household stuff

This evening, while we were eating dinner, we saw the neatest thing.  There was a female and male cardinal hopping around down the side of the house.  They would hop a little, then fly a little.  I told the boys they must be playing.  Then we noticed two little birds following along behind them.  The momma and pappa were teaching the babies how to fly!!  We were so excited.  They would fly a little, about 2 inches off the ground, then land.  It was just so neat to see.  They made their way down the side of the house and hopped into a bush.  They hopped around in there for awhile, from branch to branch.  I wasn't able to get a good shot of them from inside, so I snuck outside.  By the time I got out there, the babies had learned to fly.  Of course, I didn't really realize it.  I kept trying to zoom in on them in the bush.  All I could find was the mom and pop.  Then I realized that one of the little birds that kept flying back and forth, was one of the babies.  It was hard to tell them apart from the sparrows/wrens (whatever they were).  But I did get to see one fly from the neighbor's garage back to the bush.  I was so excited.  That has to be the coolest thing ever.  (for a city girl).

Saturday was by BIL surprise b-day party.  Boy, was he surprised.  There were SOO many people there.  He is a very social person and has MANY friends.  I was a little overwhelmed by all the people, but I did talk to some of them (huge accomplishment for me).  I talked about birth stories and homeschooling.  Really, what else is there to talk about??  heheh....  I went upstairs to my MIL "house" when I had to nurse, where she was having a Perfect Strangers marathon.  Anyone used to watch that show?  I used to LOVE that show.  It's hilarious.

I had planned on doing alot of cleaning today to catch up with the CHCHC.  I did nothing.  I woke up and right away changed three poopy diapers (and I only have two in diapers).  And then I had to give two baths because the diapers didn't work as well as they should have.  Then I went to Curves, and, by the way, I am NOT a morning work out person.  I was so dead tired after about 5 minutes, becuase I had not fully woken up yet!  And it was already after 11!!!  Anyway, after that, I had to feed all the kids, and then myself, and then I started planning the week's menu.  That took forever.  Then I made dinner, rushed out to do some grocery shopping, came home and ate dinner, video taped the birds, and then hopped on the computer.  Now I have to put the kids to bed, watch Prison Break and 24 (WOOHOO), fold some laundry and change my sheets.  Boy, it stinks to have such an unproductive day... heheheh.....

Oh wow! I am so in awe of that bird story! I'm so envious! We have a mom and dad that come and visit our birdfeeders every day. At first just the mom came, for about a week, now they come together. I wonder if they have a nest close by?

*sigh* I wanna see babies fly too!!!!!

Wow, what a lovely experience. That bird story sounds so cute!

LOL about "Perfect Strangers." I remember back then thinking Balki and Cousin Larry were a RIOT. Ohmygoodness. I doubt it stands the test of time, but boy, I loved that show when I was a kid!

I love/love/love "24" but just recently got into it. I'm watching the seasons through DVD collections (thank God for Netflix). Right now, we're in the middle of watching season 2. I'm so hooked onto that show. Is that Prison Break show cool?

How funny about your small talk at the party, by the way. Yeah, I feel like a lot of my own small talk goes towards homeschooling, too. LOL

About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L born May 18. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
