Over the Hill and Through the Woods....

Posted in Family

I hope everyone had a good Mother's Day.  I did.  We (except my hubby who was working) went over to my grandmother's house.  We brought her flowers, she bought us dinner.  She was tickled to see the great-grandchildren.  My mom visits her every week, but we don't get over there very often.  My grandma is hilarious.  She was complaining for about 20 min about the fact that we didn't call her and let her know we were coming, but then spent the rest of the visit letting us know the different things she had picked up for the kids for when they came over.  Obviously she knew we were coming, or she wouldn't have picked up a gallon of milk.  Too funny.

Two days ago my 7 yo found a box of school books upstairs that I had forgotten that we owned.  He was so excited.  My mom hears him from the other room, "Oh cool!  Neat!  Sweet!"  And then he spent the day working on a science experiment from one of the books he found.  I guess that's the trick.  Hide his school books so he can stumble upon them, and then pretend like you have other things for him to do, and he will stall by working on his newly found books.  Hmmm.... I think I have this homeschool thing finally figured out... hehe...

I suppose I should get upstairs today and clean the toy room.  It's pretty bad that we lost a big sterlite container in the middle of the room for months.  I still have to post the dining room before and after pics.  Now that I have gotten so behind on this CHCHC, my will power to clean has pretty much vanished.  I keep telling myself to get rid of most of the "twaddle" books we own, sell them at the garage sale, thus making more money to buy, well, MORE BOOKS!

LOL! I love the school book box find story! So that's the trick! And I've been doing it wrong all these years...putting books out everywhere;)

Hey, don't worry about the cleaning...plenty of time for that when the kids are grown and gone. I didn't sign up for the CHCHC...was too afraid that I would start feeling guilty!

What a wondeful gift! I know you loved it. My husband is also one not to go all out except for my birthday. He feels that the kids should be doing mother's day stuff for me, not him because I am not his mother! But I haven't been able to get across that without his encouragement, they won't do anything either.

I felt blessed this year though. My two younger kids made cards for me, told me repeatedly throughout the day that they loved me and played games with me and my oldest stepson called from a very busy work day (KFC) to tell me happy mother's day. And DH even sent me an ecard, so all it all a lovely day!

About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L born May 18. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
