I attended my first homeschool convention last weekend. It was... exhausting! I was up at 5 a.m. in order to get ready and take the loooong drive. We missed the first session, but I wasn't too worried. There were plenty of other sessions to hear.
Having a baby with at a homeschool convention is hard. They tape their speakers, so if your baby is making any noises, you have to leave the room. So, I didn't get to hear one complete session.
The vendor hall was just awesome! Books, books, and more books! Boy, if I had lots of money, and didn't mind spending it, I would have bought sooo much! I did buy Exploring Creation, Flying Creature's of the Fifth Day, from Apologia. I have been thinking about that book for awhile, and after seeing it, I decided to go for it. I also bought Birds of Illinois - Field Guide. My son, 7, has been having alot of fun with that book. He brought it to the zoo and was looking up all the birds he saw. We learned how to tell the difference between male and female robins. Male robins have black heads, female robins have lighter heads with more white spots. The last book I bought was a novel for my 7 yo. The Mystery of Blackbeard the Pirate by Carole Marsh is the third of 16 novels. They are about real kids with real adventures about historical things.
I saw a computer course about sign language. It was $44. I really wanted it, but I have a hard time spending money. And that was alot of money to spend without really thinking about it. So I decided to come home and do some research and try to find a good computer program to help us learn more signs. We have been watching Signing Time alot. My 21 mo old daughter just loves it. She knows so many signs. She will sing and sign and I have no clue what she is saying, but it is SOOO adorable. We have two DVDs, but it is also on our local PBS station. I had been thinking about teaching the boys spanish next year, but I decided since we had already started learning some sing language, we might as well go all the way with it.
There was a little take out food place between the vendor hall and the speaker hall. We ate there three times. Boy was their food goooood! I felt I little guilty for eating such greasy food, but we did so much walking. The two halls were 4 blocks away from each other. At least, we were told they were four blocks away. It felt like farther. And we walked back and forth a few times.
My kids are running rampant, but I think that about sums it all up. I am going to start on our new science book today. I am so excited! I might write some for later. Adios!
