Homeschooling in Illinois

Not Sure

Today was such a beautiful day.  I got to sit outside and listen to the birds, feel the breeze, and heard the sweet sound of children fighting.  Oh wait, that's not sweet.  That drives me nuts.  And the worst thing about the fighting is the fact that they sound just like me.  Boy, is that what my poor kids have to listen to everyday?  Grumpy, grouchy, mean old mother?  But, since I don't like anything to be my fault, I will just blame my hubby for this one.  They my sound like me, but I sound just like him.  I've grown very much like him in the last 6 1/2 years.  There, now I feel better.

On a school note, we havn't been doing much.  D does some math every now and then.  We will be going on vacation soon and I need to make some notebooks for them to work on things in the car.  I want to do that treasure hunt thing where you get clues online and you can find things all over the USA, but I currently can't find the link for it....  Yesterday was pretty good.  D did math while N did some handwriting and even Princess C got in on the fun.  We did a few pages together.  We pasted soft things on a pillow and hard things on a rock.  She had a blast.  But then, give her a glue stick and she is happy.

Baby B is finally showing signs of intelligence.  He will sign eat when he is hungry.  He also signs and says sock, which playing with socks is his second favorite pass time.  First would be getting into trouble.  He likes to play in the dvds and climb on the table.  While he was on the table, he knocked something off and said, "uh oh, spagetti oh."  That is the clearest thing I have ever heard him say, besides mama.  And speaking of mama, he is finally calling hubby, daddy, and Abiga, Ga instead of calling them mama.  He also says ball and cracker.  His sign for cracker is way off, but I can recognize it.  He signs please and more and thank you (says that one too).  But, still you will most often hear, "EEEEEIIII!" out of his mouth.  And boy is that hard on the ears.  My mom has a great picture of him looking intelligent HERE

Another common thing in this house is Princess C's potty dance.  She likes to wait until the last minute and then she still won't go without being told.  If you suddenly see her running back and forth or in circles like a wild woman, it's time to send her to the bathroom.  She picked up this habit while the bathroom was being remodled.

All the kids had a grand old time making a fort this morning with the couch cushions.  That is what Princess C and N are doing right now.  I peeked my head in and scared C.  Her eyes got so big and her hands went over and mouth.  It was hilarious.

Guess I should have some dinner now.  Adios.

Sounds like a delightful day!

Don't you hate it when your kids fuss at one another and their tones and expressions sound sooo familiar!

Good luck with the potty dance. Mom tells me when I was young, I would get so involved in playing that I wouldn't come in until it was virtually too late!

Yeah, I get grouchy, too, and then I (terrible mom) think, "Well, it's not my fault. They are making me grouchy!!!" And then, by the afternoon/late evening, I feel so bad about being grouchy that I indulge them in something. Oy. %-D

OK. I was ***DYING**** about your baby's intelligent picture. Oh. My. Word. Too funny. And my baby is still at the stage where he calls everyone Mama. Actually, he says three words: Mama, basketball and Tati (his grandfather). He actually shouts basketball, which sounds like "bah-ket-ball!" We apparently watch too much basketball. Ya think?

The potty dance sounds funny ... LOL Well, it probably wouldn't sound funny to me if it was my child. ;-D

roflol about the potty dance. Our second has to come and let us know. He's five. You'd think he'd have figured out by that it is not necessary. Cracks me up.

Oh My Goodness! We have the potty dance too! It's my three year old son and when he has to poop he dances quite a jig. He's still not too sure that it belongs in the toilet. He'd rather put it in a pull-up! Eww!

I know what you mean about children sounding like mommy....it is so sad when I hear the tones of their voices and how much it resembles mine. But HOW do I change???

That's a cute picture of the baby!

That game sounds neat! Let us know if you find the link!

I want to give it a go one of these days too, there are several here in my town, I just keep forgetting about them. Plus my little guys would probably lack the discretion skills at this point!

Good luck!

About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L born May 18. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
