Homeschooling in Illinois

Lost?

No I am not locked in the bathroom or lost in the basement... although, sometimes I would like to lock myself in the bathroom, but the kids always find me.....

I am on vacation!  We left on Sunday morning and drove four days to California.  We arrived last night.  What a horrid, horrid trip.

Before we left, we were packing, cleaning, having house showings and trying to put a bid on the house that we found and like.  Yes, I have alot to blog about....

Ok, the horrid trip....  Baby B cried and screeched.  Alot.  We stopped.  Alot.  Princess C pooped in her pants.  Twice.  We stopped at Walmart.  Twice.  We drove 700 miles and it took us about 14 hours.  But we found our very first letterboxes.  That was fun.  We felt like we were on Amazing Race.  Some of the clues had us using a compass (our first Walmart stop.)  Luckily, D just got his compass merit in Royal Rangers because us adults were clueless as to how to use it.  We had to go 260 degrees to the picinic shelter and D pointed the way and hubby was like, "We are supposed to walk on water???  I don't think so."  So he took the compass and said it has to be this way.  Well, when that didn't work, we went back to the original spot to try again, and low and behold, across the pond was a picinic shelter, right were D had pointed.  We didn't see it originally because there were trees in the way.  So, D got to feel pretty smart.  Also that first day, Baby B would not sleep!!!  He had two naps about 20 min each and didn't go to bed until 1 AM!!!  It was awful.  The next days weren't as bad.  B finally decided he liked Signing Time, so the last few hours of the trip we had a Signing Time marathon.  UGH!  I am so sick of hearing them now.  But it was better than him screaching.  As it was, he kept screaming, "Signing Time!"

Well, that's it for now.  I'm gonna go enjoy some more visiting time.  (we are at my brother's house)

I thought you were just too busy house hunting to blog. It sounds like you are going to need a vacation to recover from your vacation.

Bums me out that you were in my state and yet so far uuuuuuuuup north. Drag.

Some people love car trips with kids. And I'm one of them. So long as the ride is no longer than three hours. Any longer than that, we double the time a normal child-less couple would take because everyone pees and poops at different times, kids hate to be strapped in their seats for more than 30 minutes at a time, and it ends up being exhausting and horrible. Unless the road trip is about two hours long. Then it's just delightful. LOL

So sorry it was horrid. YIIIIIIIIKES!!!!!!!!!!

And I. Am. So. Not. Kidding. About. This. I was checking out the letterboxing Website two weeks ago and printed out a list for us to start checking out boxes in our city. I was waiting to feel better and also to get a good stamp to put in the books. I was dreaming of getting one done with our name, but, jeepers, that's expensive. We'll have to do a storebought stamp. I was thinking about letterboxing this summer. It's crazy to me sometimes how our lives overlap.

Whyyyyyyy do you live so far away?

Sigh.

I find it funny that he kept screaming "Signing Time". I mean, if those DVDs are worth their mettle, shouldn't he have been signing it furiously?!?! :)

It's signing time with Alex and Leah...

Wow! Sounds like an interesting drive! Our children are generally good travelers...thankfully since we are 24 hours from family. Next week we're taking a vacation to NC, about 12 hours away so hopefully we'll have well behaved children in the vehicle!!! Hope you have a safe and delightful trip home! Can't wait to hear about the house hunting!

About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L born May 18. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
