History Choice

Posted in Curriculum
Thank you so much for all of your advice.  I checked out all of your recomendations.  Last night, I came to a decision.  Story of the World.  I was lying in bed, worrying if I would ever be able to choose, when I started to pray.  I said, "Lord, please show me which one I should use and please make it clear to me."  Before I had finished saying that, Story of the World popped into my head.  Well, being the faithless, God-doesn't-talk-to-me kinda person that I am, I said, "but what about all those other ones.  They all sound so good."  And then I realized, duh!  I asked it to be clear and it was a pretty clear answer.  So I thought, well, I guess it's SOTW.  I figured I needed to trust my answer and as much as I would have loved God to say, "Go with Tapestry of Grace.  You can do it!"  It wasn't going to happen.  And then, God knew I lack faith, so He confirmed his answer even more.  My hubby, who was sleeping, says, "What?  Huh?"  I just ignored him because he talks alot in his sleep and I get bored with trying to explain to him that he is sleeping.  But he rolled over and asked again, "What?"  So I said, "I didn't say anything, you are sleeping."  Then, this is where is gets strange, he says, "I thought you said, 'the middle one'".  I said, "WHAT?"  He repeated it.  Earlier in the night, I gave him 3 history book descriptions to look at.  The middle one was Story of the World.  So, today, I got online and ordered SOTW (and a bunch of other things).  So, there you have it.  I guess God does talk to me!

So cool.
I think you'll like it. We did just volume 3, with my then 9 yr old son. (Actually, we've stalled out for summer, and haven't actually finished it, if you look in my sidebar!) He would do the coloring pages with colored pencil while I read it to him. He loved the stories. Some of it I needed to explain a little further, for vocabulary, concepts, or I would fill in things I knew that would help enrich his understanding of it. I felt I learned a lot I never learned before! And if you want to focus on a certain part further, there are all kinds of resources you can find. I like the way this volume wove together what was going on in different parts of the world at the same time. Revealing.

You and your kids are going to LOVE these history books! They make history fun to re-learn as an adult. My kids color the coloring pages while I read to them, and the activities are really fun to do, also. I'm so glad you listened to God's voice on this decision. You won't regret doing so. Blessings! About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L born May 18. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
