To the Store, or Not....

I try never to go anywhere with the all four kids, alone.  Call me a whimp, but I just can't do it.  My mom was been gone to CA for a couple weeks, now, and we have run out of food.  I am out of creamer and fruit.  Two majorly important food groups.  I decided to venture out to the local store to pick up a few things.  I pumped myself up.  "You can do it.  Other people do it all the time.  You will survive.  What's the worst that can happen?"  We made it as far as three kids in the car, only one buckled, when I gave up.  First of all, today is a day in the month where I'm not to comfortable, if ya know what I mean.  So I have that against me already.  I put Baby B in the car and realize he has pizza sauce on his face.  I head to the house to get a washcloth.  Two kids couldn't find shoes.  One finally did, the other walked out in mismatched.  Um, no, try agian.  D, go get a water.  C, get in the car.  D, buckle her up.  N, yes you have to have shoes that match!  I am in the house and I hear C WAILING from in the car as I am wandering the house trying to remember what I came in for.  She doesn't want D's help.  N still doesn't understand his shoes need to match.  Forget it!  We are not going.  Get in the house.  C, you're taking a nap.  C, stop screaming.  C, stop wailing.  C, stop throwing a fit.  (Mom stop laughing at her because she looks so rediculous... )  N and D, upstairs to read some books.  B, try not to destroy the house, mom's going to blog land.....

OK, I probably shouldn't be, but I'm chuckling, that story sounds so cute. Of course I only have 2 kids, but I've dragged them everywhere with me. But I did have to prepare myself for it. And lots of times I waited until hubby came home to be with them, and then I'd run out. :)

I've three kids and we do venture out to stores, library, etc., but it's *never* (or hardly ever) on a whim. Like, if I know that we're going to go somewhere, I need to know about two hours ahead of time to get everyone ready. Seriously. (Including myself. LOL)

This morning, we went to the library at 10:30, but I had been preparing it (getting the kids fed, changed, the baby ready, the books together, etc.) starting at 9 a.m.

So ... it CAN be done. But sometimes, there are flare-ups and then it's, like, FORGET IT. LOL I've been there!

Oh my! I am ROFL so hard right now. I can so relate to your story. If I have to take all four of my kids to the store, it's a nightmare. I'm just glad my oldest can push a cart for me. I put the two little ones in the double stroller, and then only have to worry about my 5 year old running hog wild through the aisles! LOL If I don't have my oldest with me, steering the stroller and handling a cart just won't do. I've tried wearing the baby in a Maya wrap, and sitting the 20 month old in the cart. That works until the 20 month old starts kicking his feet and whacking me and the baby with them! LOL again. And I get looks from other shoppers (okay maybe they are "knowing glances" from other Moms who have been there, done that) that seem to say, "HOMESCHOOLERS!" ha ha ha My other option, which always works, is to let my DH do the grocery shopping. Blessings to you!

That is so funny. That sounds like my house some days and I only have 2.
Good luck finding food.

LOL! There are a couple of things I am confused about though...First of all, explain why the shoes have to match? And second of all, why isn't pizza sauce on the face acceptable;)

Maybe you just need to lower your standards a little...or be more creative...who knows your kids could be setting new fashion trends;)

I've been gone from hsblogger too long, I can't remember writmm's real name...at any rate, what she said. Shoes don't need to match and pizza sauce (dirt, cookie face) is perfectly acceptable when you have four kids. Well, I suppose, unless it's *that* time of the month. Then you should just feed them whatever they want to keep them out of your hair. TV makes a good sitter those days too. :-D

About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L born May 18. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
