Goals
Sherry wanted to know if we set goals. As I started to comment, I relalized it was going to be long and
I might as well turn it into a blog post. So, goals. When I was preparing for last year, I made long list of what books we were going to read, I set a detailed schedule of what we would do when, and I made a list of the different things I wanted us to study that year. At the end of this year, I happened upon those lists and thought, "what on earth did we do last year? Certainly not this!" But the more I thought about it, the more I realized I had reached the basics of my goals. I had written down the books that Ambleside Online suggested, but I hadn't written down things like "learn grammer through copy work". But that was part of Charlotte Mason's methods, which ultimatly was my goal. Learn more Charlotte Mason-y. It took me a few weeks to get out of the dumps of "we accomplished nothing" before I relized what we did accomplish. So next year I will not make detailed year plans. Instead I will be more general. Like one goal this year is for them to write in a journal often. I also want them to start reading their Bible when they wake up. Here's a good one: Have more fun. And that will probably be it for my goals. After that, we will see where our learning takes us.

Good idea to be general. I did that 101 in 1001 goals thing and already had to change it 'cuz it's so specific that if something changes (say, for instance, one of your kids decides to change to tap from ballet, or quit piano) you really can't achieve the specific goal in mind for that. But that's just my issue. ;-)
