Some School!!

Posted in Schooling

Yesterday we actually did some "official" school work!  I received my new school books a couple of weeks ago and was really anxious to start them.  I got D Look! Listen! Think!  I also bought Critical Thinking Activities but I bought the wrong age.  So I just gave it to N, instead.  It is full of  pages that N would just love to do.  Patterns and such.... So that is what we sat down to do.  They complained, but then once they sat down to do it, they actually enjoyed it.  And since things were going so well, I had D finish his moon lap book.  Yippee!!  It is officially finished.  And we read somemore about birds from the Apologia book.  I want to move on to insects as soon as possible, but I enjoy bird watching much more than insect watching.... I have been taking pictures of the bugs I find around the house and just thinking about studying them gives me the creeps.  I guess that's what I get for having boys....

I found the Thornton W. Burgess story books at the library and checked out one for D to read.  He actually liked it!!  He read it in two days and is willing to read the rest of the series.  They are great books about nature.  The one he read was Buster Bear.  It is a ficitional story that weaves in true characteristics about the animals.  Very, very neat.  I bet N could even read it.  Two thumbs up!!

We need to get back to school work. I meant for us to school work all summer, but between our Fresh Air child and then my knee giving out on me last week, we haven't gotten much done.

I wanted to let you know I am hosting a contest for a CD of 460 recipes. There will be 2 lucky winners! Be sure to come over and share your favorite summer recipe with me and maybe I'll pull your name out of the colander:)

I've done that with books. Sigh. And then you just think, "Good thing I've got more than one kid. I'll give it to another one." LOL

Ooooh, a moon lapbook. Post pictures, girlfriend. It'd be nice to see it. We do lapbooks, too, although they never seem to be as beautiful and, well, NICE as the ones I always see online. Maybe it's the ages of my kids ... ya know?

About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L born May 18. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
