Homeschooling in Illinois

Homeschool Food

I nearly fell off my chair when I read this this morning:  "He shows why home schooling is not the best thing a parent can do for a child. He explains how certain foods found in most kitchens can actually be killing kids rather than helping them to grow."

It came in my e-mail and the way I read it was that the two sentences actually went together.  Like, if you homeschool you are killing your kids with the food you feed them.  But it was only a book review and the two sentences were two of the many topics the guy wrote about.  If you're curious, click here for the full review.

Well, first of all, he's from California and without insulting my fellow Californians, this is the home of the 9th circuit (circus) court of appeals. 'Nuff said!

I also see this as some guy who wants to get rich praying off the fears of parents who are already hurried and exasperated and worried about the public school system and what it's really doing to their kids. I wouldn't give him the time of day. Liberal nonsense. More rhetoric from those who seek to destroy families. He probably doesn't have any kids of his own! Ha! I don't know. Maybe he does and may be they are wonderful but we know the truth about families.

This is just another stab at keeping the suspicion of homschoolers going. We must after all really be child abusers right? Why else do we keep the public school away. DUH!

Ok, off my soapbox. I am saddened too when I read these things but all we can do is show them the proof. Looking at your pics, your children are healthy, happy and how can anyone ever say they are neglected or lacking? Look at those smiles!!!!! The proof is in the pudding. How may homeschools are failing? The best leaders of tomorrow are homeschooled kids. The next 10 years or so are going to be interesting as the numbers of homeschooled children are growing and producing wonderful fruit! Keep your head up high! This guy is a quack. Must have had bad parents! Or maybe his kids aren't so bright and some patient who homeschool's child is brilliant and he hates it!

Press on fellow homeschoolers! Unite! We should write our own book of successes!

That was a really weird press release.....what kind of journalism is that? I guess they want to get people to get the book. I don't think the person writing that one even really looked at it very well, but grabbed a couple of attention getting sentences and threw them into their press release.
I am curious about his homeschool statement, though... he didn't seem to qualify it with the idea that homeschooling doesn't work for everyone. Whatever is he getting at.....is he one of those geniuses??? I wonder!

I'll make sure I don't choose him as my pediatrician. *IS* not. As if sending kids to school is *always* what's best. Really. Sounds pretty narrow minded. I think I'll put this one on my list of books to avoid.

About Me

Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 1/2 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L 1, and a new little blessing due Jan 31. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
