Field Museum
We took a field trip to the Field Museum of Natural History yesterday. I remember going as a child and being bored out of my mind. But, they have mummies there, and that's what we are learning about. What an awesome museum!! It is so well taken care of and there weren't hundreds of screaming kids running about! - Unlike every other museum and zoo in Chicago. They have a new play place for kids with lots of hands on activities. They have a microscope, puppets, books, arts and crafts, and a music room. Of course, a lot of the rooms would be extremely boring for kids, but there was enough interesting rooms to hold their attention. We saw the Hall of Gems which had sparkling jewels. We saw dinosaur bones, which we had to run through millions of years to get to. Sneaky people.... It was sad seeing a family reading the information and saying "Wow, that was 35 million years ago. Can you believe it?"
But this is what we went there for:

Yes, those are real mummies. Freaky, yet cool.
They had some really neat dioramas there.

This one shows part of the mummification process. They had one where you could see them taking out the intestines. Pretty cool.
The museum also had a "pyramid" you could walk into. They had actual stones from a pyramid inside of it with the pictures and everything.
Here are all the kids outside of the pyramid.

Yes, we were all dorks and wore red. Usually it's a good idea. It's easier to find each other. But since there was hardly anyone there, it wasn't really necessary.

About Me
Oh, the crazy things that happen in my house.... I am the wife of M for 8 1/2 years now. I am the mother of a 10 yo boy - D, 6 1/2 yo boy - N, 4 yo girl - Princess C, 2 1/2 yo boy -Toddler B, and girl Lil' L 1, and a new little blessing due Jan 31. I've been homeschooling since 2003. I lean towards a Charlotte Mason approach, but more often than not, it's "whatever works".
